Feeding my addiction.
I just got C3C and when creating my own personal mod I find that the units I had in PTW are not all there.

Now I installed C3C on a clean Civ game, that is to say I uninstalled everything and re installed it without PTW. I want to use the units I payed for when I bought PTW and now again in C3C. Now being that I in a sence payed for them twice I should be able to use them... So how do I get them? Install PTW again just for the units? Or can they be extracted some how from the disk?

Please help.

Which units aren't there? I didn't look hard, but it seemed that they were all there to me.

in my: C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Civ3PTW\extras folder I have only found the Medieval Japan units. THere are some WW2 units in the WW2 conquest that came with C3C but only about half of what was in PTW. Also the Dinosaurs are missing (not that I wanted them but still).

C3C was supposed to include everything in PTW except the Fan made units. Even if these Firaxis-made units are to be considered part of those not included, this hurts anyone who uses these units in scenarios a lot because, unlike Fan-made stuff, these units can't be downloaded. People who use these units would have to limit their scenarios to people who got PTW before C3C.

So in other words I have to re-install my PTW again just to get as small group of units that should already be there. If they were going to cut out the PTW units they could have included more new units.

As for this hurting fan work... They had better start allowing us to include units from PTW in down loads, if they are going to have them in one expantion and not the other. It makes NO sence to include only PART of PTW, it makes things pointlessly difficult.

Although I guess its some kind of marketing trick. Dont buy PTW seperate and you cant have all the units. Gotta sell out the PTW stock some how

Hunter-

Have you tried doing a clean install of the original Civ3, patch to 1.29F, install PTW, then
A) patch to PTW patch 1.21F
Then install C3C

B) install C3C

I think "A" might give you everything, although "B" might.

Have not tried this but I think it mght work, so give it a shot, eh?

Without the original C3 patch of 1.29F thrown in before install C3C, and maybe PTW too, I think we're going to come up short, although I will bow to the knowledge of those who TRY or DO this ..
anyone out there willing to test this? I'd like to but am totally involved with a work buffer overrun ...

I wish that those extra PTW units came with Conquests. I really wanted some of those, like the rocket launchers

Thanks royfurr I think "A" is my only option as I have already installed just C3C on a clean Civ3(minus PTW) and got nothing.

I just gotta have those units especialy the "German Flamethrower" that guy rocks hes way better than the standard Flamethrower (who is the Combat Engineer in C3C).

Let us know if it works, and exactly what you try. I'd suggest starting by uninstalling Everything, (including patches, I think they show up in Add/Remove Programs seperately from the main programs), going "backwards" from C3C back to at the end, the original Civ. Also deleting all folders and files that might still be left over. Reboot. Then install C3, patch 1.29F, then PTW, patch 1.21f for PTW, then C3C. Reboot between each step. Will take a big effort but maybe this will leave all the PTW units.

What OS are you using?

Good luck, and let us know what happens!

Thinking on it, I believe that all Atari/Firaxis ever officially said was that the "core PTW game" would be included on the cd. It was we, the gaming community, that interpreted that incorrectly. The additional units, the terrains, all of that extra stuff on the PTW CD, are not part of the "core game".

Marketing.

Like I said before they still had to sell their PTW CD's some how.

Not that I am in anyway displeased about the C3C content but this just causes lots of minor problems when making our own "Conquests". C3C contains SOME of PTW units but to use the all PTW units (more for WW2) you cant use the C3C core :crazyeye: . So you will be having to allways double check to see what PTW units CAN be used in C3C "Conquests". You get my point :)

Sorry for posting twice :(

It just dawns on me that if I had not bought PTW and instead only bought C3C, which contains the PTW core + a few of its units. Why would I then want to buy the PTW expantoin? Beacause it has a few good units? Not likely.
Just a thought... but no matter if it was disk space or marketing that caused this, they sould post a "units" patch for C3C that contains the remaining PTW units. Kind of a "Thanks" or just because they are so nice, for the loyal Civ3 fans. Who yes I know most likely have the PTW expantion anyway but it just would make mods easier. But hey its just a thought.

You are very right Hunter. It's really annoying since both sides suffers - those who bought PTW and have "extras" can't really use them for mods (after all they're only for mods) because of incompatibility with "new" PTW. Those who bought C3C only, have PTW that is incompatible with PTW mods... (not all of course, but some).

If they didn't have an internet connection, they couldn't be reading this thread and won't get angry ;)

Well I don't agree here, if it was all about marketing then they wouldn't even have bothered to put the PTW core game in C3C.
I for one did not buy PTW, and I'm really glad they put it in C3C. I'm not into mods or stuff, so not having all those funny units is no big deal to me :) You have to remember that not all civ players are fanatics ;)
So I think the deal was quite fair on that extension.

That's the problem. These units (to the best of my knowledge) can't just be uploaded and downloaded freely.
