It has been a turbulent century, Russia managed to stay out of all major European wars of the 19th century and lead the way of industrialization and modernization in the early 20th century. China, Ecuador and Romania are vassal nations under the Tsar's Reformed Empire. Japan, Austria, UK, USA and others are all potential enemies. The Prussian German state and Sardinia-Piedmont at allies of the highest caliber. A brief history lesson on the Russian state over the last 80 years is required to understand the nature of these times.

The idea of competing with the British in the far east came about for most of the century, leading to the annexation of many central Asian countries, the founding of an Indian ocean port for the Russian industrial giant and the successful entry into the Chinese wars. Leading to the vassalization of the mighty Qing, the taking of northern Korea from the Japanese threat and a stabilizing presence in the entire region.

Africa was another story entirely, the British were unable to hold on to their claims in the region due to rebellions and exhausting resources in India and China allowing the Russian government to make purchases of vast sways of land over the course of two decades. Millions of Russians were sent to live in the colonies, which now have industrial centers of their own and produce a hefty income to the Russian Empire. Losing these regions would be devastating.

Relations in Europe have mostly been focused on keeping out of wars, problems with the Ottomans have led to various close calls on the war front but no full blown wars have started in the region. Romania was released as a sign of easing tensions and now sits as a buffer between the Turks and Russian lands. The German states never unified as an early coalition led by France against the growing German threat broke them down into Federations and the original Prussian state (now known as Germany). Sweden managed to gain parts of northern Germany for the first time in centuries. France and Spain were involved in a six year war with the USA over some incident in Cuba and all sides were devastated. Mobilization cost both the USA and the French millions in casualties and eventually the French surrendered as their government faltered.

Between 1915 and 1918 the Russian military aided Sardinia in the Italian Wars. Giving the nation a much better position on the peninsula and many in Sardinia call for unification of Italy. Russia, France and Germany all support Sardinia while Two Sicilies is supported by Austria, South German-Fed and potentially the United Kingdom. We are now in April 1919 and it seems that the major war Russia had feared for decades is finally going to come.

As the war unfolds I will be following it slowly to give you all something interesting to see. Difficulty is normal/normal and Russia is far from ready with a standing army to simply crush Austria or the UK.

Goals: Unify Italy under Sardinia-Piedmont, Conquer Hungary and annex it into Russia, Leave the Austrians completely defeated, etc.

Austria-Hungary is Huuuge...

Who is the Blue nation on the west coast of Africa and France?

Update 1:
April 5-April 19, 1919

On April 6th hostilities were officially declared after the Russian government and Sardinia had secured support from Germany in any wars with Austria. Germany and Sardinia have mobilized already to bring up enough forces to match the Austrians and South German Fed has yet to make a move. United Kingdom, France and Sweden all remain neutral so far as France has heavy rebels activity and the UK and Sweden simply press for peace.

Initial overview of the Italian theater shows a strong line in Two-Sicilies with a much smaller defensive force on the Austrian borders. It is possible that advances can be made by Sardinia early enough to make a difference before the Austrian reinforcements arrive. Two-Sicilies will be a tougher nut to crack, there is a Russian army in Rome but it lacks enough support from the Sardinians to make a push on Naples.

The Russian border is almost entirely a well fortified and entrenched position on the Austrian side. With a few fortified areas on the Russian side. Russian armies outnumber the Austrians across the whole front but our generals will not push against the forts. There is a possible open spot south of Krakow that is up for planning by the Russian military officials, we await the Austrian redeployment as the Germans advance before making a move.

Within two weeks the Germans had made a small incursion into northern Austria, with the Austrians seeming to retreat from the area completely it is possible they are reorganizing in the south to make a strong counter offensive in the coming months. As of now the German military is rather unhindered in her advances.

On the home front there is much unrest over the potentially devastating war with Austria and many members of the socialists parties are gaining ground. They now hold a 27% stake in the voters minds.

Update 2:
April 20 - June 5 1919

After initial movements by the Germans and Sardinians it would seem that that victory would be relatively easy to achieve. A few small gains were made first by the Germans while the Austrians seemed to retreat. It would later prove to be a smart move as the Austrians were reorganizing into larger armies to fight the Germans. Russian soldiers remained still throughout April and most of May.

As May progressed the battles became more intense and Austria began constructing new fortified lines farther south than the German border hoping to have them finished in late July and be able to stop the German advance.

In Italy the Sardinian armies captured Milano on May 5th. With only around 10,000 total casualties for both sides.

After the initial retreat of the Austrians from the German border, they returned north in middle May, around the 17th to meet German armies. The largest battle to date was begun on May 19th and continues as of June 5th.

Seeing a weakness in the province of Zator where the Austrians had failed to build fortified lines, the Russian army under the command of Savin made a push with 112,000 men having had a fresh Artillery attachment added in early May. The offensive started on May 21 and by the 24th the battle for Zator began.

May 26th the Austrians retreated to reorganize farther east and by June 5th the occupation of the territory was complete. Russian forces will remain still to watch the movements of the Austrians for now. Below are the conditions on both fronts as of June 5, 1919.

Austria has yet to mobilize, so it can only be assumed that they are waiting for the time when they can make a counter attack. Russian commanders are weary of hitting the trenches and pushing farther south with such a small opening could get us cut off from supply. All movements are slow and steady. Austrian naval power in the Mediterranean is preventing the movement of more soldiers to Italy and Sardinia cannot spare the manpower to attack both Austria and Two Sicilies. So for now Italy remains mostly stale.

Pretty good AAR, I'll be reading this.
How strong is the Austrian defense line?
Do you have troops near India in case the British try anything?
