Q: renaming the goody hut (XML and the civilopedia) ...

We have renamed the goody huts in Roanoke to a 'mysterious signal', and renamed the entry in CIV4GameTextInfos_Objects_custom.xml

		<Tag>TXT_KEY_IMPROVEMENT_GOODY_HUT</Tag>
		<English>Mysterious Signal</English>
	</TEXT>

I also note that in CIV4UnitInfos.xml the scouts have the ability

			<bNoBadGoodies>1</bNoBadGoodies>

But the scouting units still have the characteristic 'Better results from tribal villages' listed in the civilopedia :(
its not a life or death issue, granted but its a bit crappy looking :rolleyes:

anyways ive had a trawl round looking for ways to change this surface text but with little success. Does anybody know if theres a quick answer or even if changing this unit characteristic text is possible ?
 
Check here:

Civ4GameText_Strategy. It's in the main Assets. Copy it over to the Roanoke mod first then make changes.

Search for this:

TXT_KEY_UNIT_SCOUT_STRATEGY

I had started copying and editing (to english only) for the entire CIV4GameTextInfos.xml file (massive :p) before i got fed up and decided to try and find something else!

Working now ! Thx both for the directions anyways :goodjob:

Just one hint. Though also people want to play mods from civfanatics it should be recommended, that you leave german, french, italian and spanish. Only copy the english texts between these tags. I ran into an empty main menu, after using a mod with only the english tags.
 
but if the rest of your custom tags are already in english (they are :( ) its not worth having (say an italian version) for just the copied keys as thats gonna be the only one that'll work. what is your native language caesium? youre english is probably better than mine :p

My native language is german. When I put a new mod into my compilation I translate the text entries for the german language. It's about half an hour and then the mod is in german. Thats easier than not being able to play the mod...
