Civ: Zara Yaqob of Native America (CRE/ORG; UB Monument +3 Archery Exp; UU Dog Soldier Axeman 4 str +100% against melee)
Opponents: All random!
Difficulty: Noble
Map: Standard; Fractal
Other: Choose Religions, Unrestricted Leaders

Variant: "Quick Hookup = Dog Soldier Rush???"

-All cities must be settled on a resource. This include ALL of our cities. So, we may not capture an AI city not on a resource.
-All cities must be a play on words of the appropriate Native American city, list at bottom.

Skip Forefeit:

-You must post a dotmap which follows the variant rules of a random map I generate if you require a skip.

Roster:

-Quotey (playplay play)
-toug (on boat settled on clams)
-???
-???
-???

Play until a good point, like a tech choice. You must play at least 10 turns, and at most 25.

Loose 24/48 for got it/play. Swaps preferred if you cannot play, but you know what to do if you need a skip!

Too bad, it'd be useful for unrestricted leaders. You may also not just post an autolog with a few comments. A real report in a wee bit late is preferrable to "Played 10 turns and won a time victory". If you can't do this you must take the forfeit!

For clarification, we may hookup resources without shoving a city on them.

Directors Commentary: Native America because the UU cannot be used for rushing, so there'll be no pressure to put a city near copper (barracks + totem poll= unbreakable defence in relation to barbs). Zara just because.

toug: Are you opposed to being first? I looked at the surrounding area in WB so it's better I'm near the end.

Nothing is required for signing up at all. Just a willingness to dotmap and discuss stuff.

Starting position:

We can't settle on clams, so that rules it out.

Settling on the corn gives us 3 food in the city tile. Gold gives us 2H on the city tile. Cows does nothing. We will not be able to grab the clams.

Perhaps I should go into WB and give us a scout- this was someything I never thought of when choosing the civ. :/

Suggest settler moves onto the corn and warrior 1SW. Or scout :P

it's toug :-D

I can go whenever. I'd prefer if you started it as I have quite a busy weekend. It's the girlfriends birthday so I'm not sure when I'll be able to play.

I've put you third, but if we get to you at the weekend (very unlikely) you can go last or fourth or whatever. Don't want a first round skip :P

Toug, perhaps we should just play 2-man if noone else is interested and you're up for it? Now where do ya want to settle?

It's a matter of perspective. You are looking to maximize what we settle on while I'm trying to keep the integrety of a resource in it being worked rather than settled. Defaulty city gets what, +1H, +2F?

Cow with pasture gives +1F, +2H.
Corn with farm gives +2F and it's irrigated.
Gold mine gives +1H, +6C.

From my perspective I would immediately say Cow, as settling on the cow means we lose the least amount of benefit from the collective group of resources. It actually looks like a great spot for a capital.

Now, had those hills not been there, I would have said the corn so we could pick up the extra hammers from the pasture. Productions doesn't seem like it's going to be a problem though.

Granted, we will miss out on the clam, but that might make for a city to be settled later.

Ah yes, the cow does look like a fantastic place. For some reason I thought that the corn was not in the BFC. I might just play right now.

e: Oops, civ disc not with me. Buggery.

toug, could you play first? I'm not able to play today or tommorow. I think the Native American staring techs are Fishing and Agriculture? Mining/Worker first sounds fine then.

If you find an interesting resource we could settle on when the settler is in motion, stop playing, but otherwise, Cowhokia it is. (NEW VARIANT: All cities must be a play on words of the appropriate Native American city, list in the OP)

What luck we're on at the same time. Crisis averted.

Play through to whatever point seems interesting. If nothing else, I'm fine if you go to finishing the second tech, over 20 turns or not. AH doesn't matter currently.

Also, in the OP, why isn't the native american UU good for rushing? 100% vs. melee? What's wrong with that?

It's terrible at rushing because it's strength 4 and the AI defends with Archers. Unless you are really early and catch them with Warriors (this is Noble where the AI does not get Archery for any readers. I should have done Prince, perhaps). They MURDER Axemen though. NA is the unrushable civ. Especially if Partisans are on- 4 Dog Warriors vs Your Wounded Axemen after beating CG3 archers.....

I just thought of that as I posted. Ok I'm at work right now but I *should* be able to give this a play later... Let's get this thing running.

OK played the first round.

I ended up settling on the corn and founding Cornhokia. The Warrior, after moving SW to the hill and then SW again, found another source of gold AND ivory. We will have no happiness problems and will be early tech monsters. I really wanted to avoid settling on the corn for the farmed food, but this capital was too great to pass up:

The warrior then went exploring. The hut to the southwest popped 105 gold and revealed, sadly, plenty of sea resources that we'll never be able to utilize. And the first person we meet, who I suspect of being very close to us:

Unfortunately, because of the path my warrior took, I lost the hut you can see in the top right corner of the first picture. Fortunately, Willems scouts got stuck in an infinite loop going back and forth and missed the hut in the northeast corner that I popped for:

We'll take it.

Researched -> Mining & Hunting, in the process of the wheel. Buddhism was founded by the 12th turn. Hinduism is still unfounded, I believe.

There is a worker on the gold ready to mine and a warrior is being built to help explore/kill barbs.

It's a great capital... unfortunately I'm not seeing many very good sites for food. Looks like next cities (inside our border, anyway) will be on the sheep and marble. Look forward to some more scouting.

Nice.

You made the correct decision on the site, the Gold + Buerausasudcy will work.

I can't remember anything about the map other than it will be challenging, but hopefully something will pop up. It looks so far we'll just be running a CE, since we are not Sitting Bull, but Zara.

City on the Marble sounds fine (fyi: we do not need to name our second city after Poverty Point! If it is the marble one, we could name it Marbla Verde or something. or Estipah Skikikini Rocks etc)

And personally, I would have researched AH next. Then perhaps the Wheel or BW. When I play, I'll switch it unless you make a good case. I'd hate to settle a city knowng it's one tile east of horses or copper where it would have been much better.

I'd also rather have a scout so we can start mapping, instead of a warrior but he can stay.

Closing words; Yuck, the AIs will get the resourceless area to the NE of Cornhokia.

Yes, my fault about the research. I got so excited about the happiness from the ivory and gold that I wanted to hook them up too fast. AH or BW sounds fine to me.

Wow, this is a very interesting variant. It's a shame you didn't finish.
