Question about Civ and Windows 7

Does it particularly matter which version of Windows 7 I upgrade to or use?

The reason I ask is because I'm building a new PC, but am a bit confused about backwards compatibility of Civ 4/BTS/Col with 7.

I bought Professional Edition under the impression that I needed Windows XP mode to operate old games that ran on Windows XP. Any elaboration on whether or not Virtual PC is a must would be appreciated.

I have had no problems running Civ 4 under Windows 7 Ultimate, Professional, and on a friend's computer, Home Premium.

Any version is fine.

XP mode works very poorly with games anyway, it wasn't meant for gaming purposes. (Hence it being included in Pro, and not Home.)
