Does the increased movement ability stay with the unit when it is upgraded to another unit type?

No. Only the +1 move from Mongol UA would carry on to cavalry along with any other movement promo u might had chosen for ur Keshlik. Overall cavalry movement will be 4 compared to 5 of Keshlik in normal circumstances.

Side note : Don't upgrade ur Keshliks to cavalry. They are simply too good. They have ranged attack & faster movement. With proper micro they can literally annihilate cavalry & rifles.

Spot on...

Your comments about the effectiveness of Keshiks are no exaggeration either...

Thanks for the answers. I've never used the Mongolian Civ and I was thinking about going for a domination win in my next game - they look like a good choice for that.

@General Tso; I'm more impressed by their UU that replaces the general. It makes an army of units almost unstoppable when they heal 2-4 per turn extra.

Their unique great person general has 5 movement and advanced medic promotion, healing units +2. When you have 2-3 great general overlapping, half of your army will heal 4 per turn.

I'll definitely have to try them next.
