One thing I'm not quite understanding is how exactly does the science research amount that you allocate in the adviser screen impact what is going on as far as science is concerned. Of course I understand the main benefit of civilization advances moving along quicker, the more science you allocate. But I get the feeling from the manual that it is supposed to influence other aspects (concerning science) of the game. Because if it doesn't influence other aspects beyond the main advances of the game, I 've found a simple way of making a lot of money without suffering too much in the advances dept. On my domestic advisor screen, if I slide the science bar to a very minimum amount for a few turns, the money that I get far out weighs any negative aspects as far as advances go. I just do it for a few turns, raise some decent money (I tend to struggle a little in that dept.) and then bring the little test tube back to where it was. I lose maybe 1 or 2 turns (really, just maybe a turn for each turn I do this) to get to the next advance, but I now have plenty of money. I really hope this is not the way it is (a bug, if I'm right - at least as far as I'm concerned) because I never like to use cheats of any kind. I hope I'm wrong. Please, someone reply and tell me I'm missing something really basic here. Thanks very much for reading all of this!

this is no bug.

when theyre is 1 turn left to your science before you find it out you should reduce your % of science to minimum for 1 turn...

because it won'T help your next science to over research the last one.

this way you can make a lot of money on the last turn...
and you don'T have to lose turn like you do.

OK, thanks a lot. Just one more question, please. Does the amount of science allocated affect anything other than civ advances? Thanks again.

Later on in the game you notice that there is a very large different if you move your slider even one notch. If I need money, I can usually move my slider back one or two notches and suffer only a one or two turn loss yet I can be making over 100 gold per turn easily.

By this method, I can make obscene amounts of money and still stay relatively far ahead in the technology race.
