Questions about The BUG Mod

When it was running it stopped and gave me a message that a file wouldn't load. The program then wouldn't accept anything but aborting.

That sounds like the download file itself is corrupt. Download it again and see if it rights itself.

I downloaded it about 8 times before I got a download that worked. Try different mirrors and good luck!

Wow, that's really strange. I've never gotten a bad download from SourceForge. I wonder if their mirrors are going downhill. :(

I'm sorry, wasn't paying enough attention, it wasn't BUG that I had a problem with, it was another mod. Oops! :)

How have you installed The BUG Mod? If you have installed it as 'single player' then it is installed under the customassets folder and Civ ignores that for multiplayer games. If you have installed it as 'multi-player', it is installed as a mod and the mod had to be loaded by the pitboss server and all of the players.

I have installed it also in the Mod folder and I can load it as a mod. How can I start a LAN-Game. Everytime I try, I would flip back to none mod

Are you starting a game or joining a game? If you are starting a game, then others who join you must be running exactly the same mod. If you are joining a game, then your civ set up has to be the same as the person who started the game (ie if they haven't loaded BUG, you will be kicked back to basic civ).

You cannot run a mod while others aren't. If you could, you could just mod your game to be full of Giant Death Robots and then join a normal game with warriors.

I have started a game, using the mod - But when the game started It was just the regular CIV without the bug mod

Okay, have searched everything now and still don't know how to fix my problem.

Using BUG 4.4 since it came out, never loaded a game from another person, but just got a save from someone who wanted me to take a look into it. He is using BUG 4.4 aswell. As i try to open the file, Civ4 gives me a message:

"The file you have selected needs the following MOD to be loaded

Mods/BUG Mod

To load the MOD Civ4 needs to be restartet.

Yes / Abort"

Clicking yes, the game loads but then goes into a neverending cycle of loading and displaying the message posted above. Everytime i'm on the desktop between the failing attempts to load the game, a box appears saying

"MODS/BUG Mod is an invalid MOD Directory. Ignoring.

OK"

So far i've searched the whole forum and consulted all the help files available, never found a solution. Have loaded the newest version (again), deinstalled BUG 4.4 and reinstalled it (to custom asset, the first choice you have from the three listed in the installer, i'm not too sure what Altroot does but it seems that i don't need it?). I have tried to load the save from inside the game and from outside, have even loaded another BUG 4.4 game i found on the forum just for comparison if the other game might be broken or something - still the same problem.
Have even tried to go into the game, go to "Advanced", select "Load Mod", load "BUG Mod" which restartet the game properly - doesnt work.
Checking "Rename CustomAsset" in the Installer won't help either.

Beside that, Civ4 BTS 3.19 with BUG 4.4 works perfectly fine, and i'm able to load game that didn't use the BUG Mod from inside and outside the game.

I'm almost certain that this is a rather simple problem, but still: i just can't find the solution. Help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

where do you have the BUG mod installed? Where does he have it installed?

customassets
mods under my docs
mods under prog files

Is his MODS directory upper case? Is yours? All of these things need to be identical - its a civ4 thing.

Okay, now that explains alot. Thanks for your help so far. Is it too much to hope for a way to convert BUG-Saves to "normale" saves so i can still open them, regardless of what BUG-directory path the original saver used? I guess so. Oh well, whatever. A Civ4-thing, right? ;)

But afair there certainly was an option to turn off BUG, so you can start Civ4 without BUG just to create savefiles if you want to share a start. You don't have to answer, i think i'll figure it out myself, i think i'm remembering something about that in the helpfile. Thanks again.

The name of the mod is saved into the game. You can safely install BUG as a mod so that you can open that game.

I didn't see a "thanks and encouragement" thread so I guessed this was the right place.

Anyway, thank you very much for the wonderful BAT mod, it has really revived my interest in civilization. For instance I was never a fan of the American civ, couldn't picture it in non-modern times, unlike ancient civs which I can enjoy imagining how would they look in modern times if they hadn't disappeared.
But after seeing their medieval units design and appearance (man those American knights are COOL), I must say its the best example of "historical speculation" I have seen.

I'm currently using version 2.3 withthis addition, since in v3.01 that is currently not possible, but I can't wait for the next version to make that other mod obsolete!

O.K. I've a Question about the Bug Mod, Specifically the CivAltRoot.py file usage. heh heh heh

Situation:

Rise of Mankind Mod Ver 2.92
Operating system Ubuntu 10.04.2
Bug 4.3 (Merged into Mod)

I can play the mod, but I have to use the CivAltRoot.py file and make amendments to it, I've made a posting on how other Ubuntu or Linux users may do so as well.

It loads the game, plays fine, (apart from INQUISITORS NOT WORKING!!!!!!) with some other bugs I've noted.

But..*Here's the problem, finally*, I get this screen upon initial start

Hmm Being a typical monkey with a machine gun type of computer user, I wanted to eliminate this error, so I used the CivAltRoot install method for BUG. Huge error, spent best part of a week deleting, installing and trialling to get it working again.

Still have error, have tried various paths.

But still get the 1st screen error on path.

I"ve tried 15 combinations, all crash on map initialization. Currently I can only play a game by begining a new game, and loading a saved game once the new game is started. Before I could load, save, etc no problem.

any ideas on solving path problem??

What I've Done-

CivAltRoot.py, amended and copied to Mods/assets/python.
Amended the BUG/INFO/CivAltRoot.py file (sneaky one that) in /My Games/Beyond the Sword folder.

Note Emulating XP WINDOWS So path amended accordingly. (and it works as such)

I've also haven't been able to edit the Bug path. *Edited to reflect inability to change path*

Oh yeah, the pink bit, is completely wrong on path, Windows XP is correct path.

*edit* After typing that, I changed the pink path to C:\home\brian\My Games\Beyond the Sword

Tried loading a game and got this :ar15::banana:

Still works if you begin new game, and then load saved game from there.

Thank you from all of us.

A tip o' the hat must go to Avain and GeoModder for much of the artwork in BAT. They make the beauty, The BUG boys make the goodies work, and I just crowbar it all together into a manageable mess. :D

I'm currently using version 2.3 withthis addition, since in v3.01 that is currently not possible, but I can't wait for the next version to make that other mod obsolete!
Obsolete? That's the last thing I want to do. Fuyu has done such a beautiful job with it. I can only add an alternative option to playing with BetterBUGAI.

Stay tuned, it's on the way. :badcomp: :whew:

@IPEX - I'm not exactly sure where you are at by this point, so let me just clarify some things in case we're not on the same page.

You must move CvAltRoot.py out of the Info folder to the Assets folder. Did you do this? Where did you put it?

Don't use backslashes (\). Just stick to regular forward slashes (/). Python works it out for you on Windows.

I use Ubuntu at work and will be converting my current XP machine to Ubuntu in a couple days as my new parts are arriving tomorrow! Maybe eventually I'll try Civ4 on Ubuntu.

forward slashes, alway's.. tick
Assets folder. Hmm ok.... /Mods/Rise of Mankind ... Tick (but left original where found, only copied out to ..Rom/Python/Assets

The Version in /My Games/Beyond the Sword/Bug mod/Info I found this searching for other versions of the CvAltRoot.py file and made the alterations to it. Still have error.

This came from separate installation of Bug 4.3, I was worried 4.4 default install, would interfere with Mods 4.3 merged version. Seems to makes no difference.

Link to my Posting in Technical forum Ubuntu 10.4.2 and BTS 3.19 I have 3 others in other forums..:ar15:

Just to Clarify, I feel the seperate 4.3 Bug mod installation, makes no difference, as its only accessing the Rom Merged 4.3 Bug mod path in CvAltRoot.py

Why do I say this, because I've printed out 15 different versions of the Pathway to use, back slashes, different directories, Double slashes, Even tried Vista Emulation once, NONE of these worked.

Correct working path (only one) is C:/home/[User name]/My Games/Beyond the Sword. XP Emulation, personal choice.

CvAltRoot.py is located in .. /home/[user name]/(Control H).wine/Drive_C/Program files/Firaxis games/Sid Meier's Civilization 4/Beyond the Sword/Mods/Rise of Mankind/CvAltRoot.py

Amend this file, copy and paste into ../mods/Assets/Python, or one branch up and Assets/Python.

Final note, Civilization IV.ini path IS C:/home/[user name]/My Games/Beyond the Sword

BUT, Bug's path reads My Documents into it somehow, this I want to remove, as I believe its causing the problems, as it DOESN'T PLAIN EXIST AT ALL under Ubuntu. *Edited to note non existance of path*
