Questions and clarifications for E3

Supposedly this is the last and only E3 before civ5 gets released.

What questions would you like to see answered and what aspects of civ5 need to be explained more?

What I wonder:
1. A boxed civ5 without the need of Steam! - when?
2. The 18th civ - which one?
3. Mac steam release - when is it expected?
4. Release date?
5. Any shift in priorities - more accessible and quick MP-games?
6.

I think people need to give up on a steam-less ciV since they integrated it into the game... its not securom where its a matter of them taking it out the installation...

Anyway, I'm not so much looking for Q&A but preferably gameplay. Though I am trying to understand this new battle system, Social Policies, what are Religions now since they have been changed in significance, and some information on city building (if there are any changes)

I just want more details in general. I'm not too picky (although I would like to know how religion is expressed in the game).

It isn't.

Not as it was, but there's no harm in asking where or how it will be present. Like in the tech tree or similar.

I don't know how steam is incorporated in civ5, but questioning about it at least brings attention to it. I've got steam on my mac know and while it's ok, I'd rather buy civ5 without steam. It just seems a bit intrusive and in your face with all offers and achievements. It puts me off playing and I'm not sure whether I'll get civ5 if it's in this form.

I'm not overly excited about Q/A either, but E3 is getting closer and I'm trying to hype it for myself.:eekdance:

As I said, they said it isn't present in the game at the moment.

I would like to see a in game movie... Not really a question but still :)
I also want to know if there is possibility to get the deluxe civ as a DLC at a later time, and if thye plan to have more civs as DLC:s

As I said, they said it isn't present in the game at the moment.
You know for certain it's not in the tech tree or similar? You got a source?

Last time I heard they've taken out religion as a feature, but that it still might be present in some form.

Well, if religion is taken out as a feature, it can't be in, can it?

It depends what you mean by a "feature".
From the Confirmed features thread:
Religion has been altered from its role in Civ 4 however, it is not know in what form it will remain in the game
If they've mentioned it might exist in some form, some clarification seems like a reasonable thing to ask for. I'm not sure what your objections are.

A top 10:

1. How will Social policies work?
2. What kind of statistics will military units have; a single strength statistic? Firepower? Hit points?
3. It sounds like commerce is gone, and gold and beakers come from buildings and tiles directly; can you elaborate more on how this will work?
4. How will maintenance costs (distance, number of cities, units in friendly/enemy territory)?
5. Can you explain more clearly how units and cities interact (what does it mean to "merge" a unit with a city?)
6. What kinds of diplomatic agreements are possible; any important new ones (other than the research treaty) or old ones that are gone?
7. Can you describe the different unit "roles"? Like in Civ4 we had archers (city defense) swordsmen (city attack) chariot/horse archers (mobile) spearmen (anti-mobile) axemen (and melee) and catapults (siege).
8. Can you explain better how roads (and railways) will work, in terms of maintenance costs, necessity for resource access, movement speed and trade routes?
9. Are specialists still in? How are they similar/different?
10. Any changes to buildings? Do we still have lots of +X% multiplier buildings?

5. They've already explained that, cities defend themselves and when they run out of hps there captured, and units can merge with cities to strengthen them.

It would be nice to get some MP details since we have heard nothing officially outside the generic Community Hub concept, which is more aimed at Mods than MP really. So anything about MP would be good...p2p vs Server, Steamworks or Gamespy or both?, how will mods work in MP?, just about any details would be better than what we have now.....

Actually Need my Speed, if you look at *all* the interviews to date, all they say is "Religion will no longer work the way it did in Civ4"-or some variant of that. This doesn't mean that religion won't be in *at all*, it could just mean it won't dominate the game as it did in Civ4. I, for one, would like a bit more clarification of exactly what this means!

Aussie.

Hopefully there's more talk about game details, and not about the beat-to-death topic that is Steam. We know some of the overarching changes but some more details would be nice.

Hmm, I'm sure I've read it was completely removed. But I've searched around, and it seems you guys are right. Perhaps it's simply in like a bonus with certain technologies, like 'You've researched Divine Right, and discovered Islam! Your citizens will be happier!'. Perhaps bonuses will be city based too, like 'Islam has been founded in Teotihuacan, all units trained there are trained 10% faster!' Of course, all the bonuses will be the same because god forbid they don't abide to the 'political corectness law'...

5. They've already explained that, cities defend themselves and when they run out of hps there captured, and units can merge with cities to strengthen them.

Ok. Now please explain to me what "units can merge with cities to strengthen them" means.

What does merging do? How many units can you do this with - one, unlimited? What happens to the merged unit? Can you ever unmerge it?

We *don't* know how this actually works.

My personal guess on religion is that specific historic religions are out, but generic religious features (tolerance/intolerance, evangelism, dogmatism, etc.)

I think they're trying to avoid Vikings founding Judaism and Babylonain Hindus.

Yeah, that's a sensible guess since they've said that the current religion system is out and religion is now merged with the civics replacement (although we don't really know anything about how that will differ from our current civics system).
