I've been here for 2 months now ... reading every day, posting every 2 days. There are some questions I have unanswered because of the "Duh! dumb question" Factor.

I'm sure others here still have questions they won't ask due to that factor.:mischief:

I've started this thread for all of you (and me) who have these questions!

1 - What is Vanilla civ ?
2 - What is a terra map ?

There .... I did it !

The original game, before any expansions.

2 - What is a terra map ?

A special map script that simulates what happened in our own history. So all the civs start out on one continent and the other one is empty except for barbarian tribes. The idea is to go out and colonize the "New World".

Is there such a thing as a TAX RATE in CIV?

I understand the scienece and culture slider being how you spend your funds but is there a specific tax rate slider that can be increased or decreased?

I'll try to answer

1. Vanilla Civ refers to an unchanged game. No mods, no extra units/techs/etc., nothing. The game as released by the developers. The exception to this is an official patch -- while not the original version, an officially patched game is still considered vanilla.

2. A terra map has continents that resemble those on Earth, but aren't actually Earth-shaped. Essentailly, all civs start on a large continent, the "old world." The goal is to, in part, be the first to make it to the "new world," a smaller continent that can only be reached by crossing ocean squares. Naturally, this requires techs and units. Think of it as the colonization rush to populate North and South America.

1. Vanilla probably just means "plain", I haven't hears anyone say "vanilla civ" but I'd expect it to mean that someome is talking about a civilization with no traits. Would be something you'd say when doing a calculation or hypothetical to make it clear that you're just using raw numbers and not anything like financial or industrial.

2. Terra is one of the map options. Start the game, hit 'play now', on the 'select a map screen' look at the bottom entry. Gives you all of the civs on one big land mass plus a 'new world' to colonize later in the game.

No, you adjust your research and culture sliders and whatever is left over becomes your "tax rate".

let me see if I got this:

This is a thread to ask those questions that you won't ask cause they are too 'DUH'?

Shouldn't this thread be empty?

So why did YOU ask a question??:)

not completely useless .... I propably would find my answer for the terra questions but the Vanilla civ question I did my homework and never found a answer!

The newbie questions thread is good but ... this is for quickness!

Interesting, a guy posts some questions he was ashamed to ask, gets good clear answers in less than 10 minutes, then hours later you're asking if the thread is useless?

Quick answers/newbie questions is just about useless by now. It's over 10 pages long. Try finding anything in there. Yeah, search is great but it's a heck of a lot easier just to ask a fresh question.

im not sure about this question being stupid, it may has been answered elsewhere before:
what is the benefit of spiral minaret when i switch to freedom of religion ?
or when i simply havent adopted a religion before?
does "no state religion" count as my state religion and therefor all cities give the per building bonus ?
i think there are still other critical points about this state relogion thing which i cant recall in the moment, but maybe anyone can answer this question.

now i remember: what about organized religion with no religion adopted - same question: is "no state religion" my state religion ?
(sounds ridiculous but who knows what programmers are up to)

Then you should have tried a dictionary. Since you're from Montreal, i assume that your first language is French and that's why you didn't understand "vanilla". It's a very common expression in English that applies to many things outside Civ.

You know what it's called when someone wastes dozens of people's time in order to save himself time? Bad etiquette, and rude.

Why so harsh? I don't think this is a waste of time. Too many people don't ask questions because they are ashamed to ask them. Look at the good responses this post has gotten so quickly. And the Newbie Tips thread is so long it's hard to find anything.

Yes, vanilla means "plain" but I hadn't seen it used before these forums.

And how many people besides newbies ever go in there to look at what's posted? Most of the experienced players aren't going to bother, and they're the ones with the answers.

The idea is not that you go looking, as said, it would be a very long task, as said in the first post by civrules, if you have a question just ask, that is one of the few threads where there is no responsibility to read it through before asking. :)

The only bonus is added culture and Great People points.

Sorry, but no, you have to have organized religion to get that building bonus, so when you are in free religion, you get no bonus.

Probably not, and if you have adopted a religion previously the game will automaticly adopt that when you adopt a civic requireing a religion.

I would like to know the effects of 'We Love The King Day' are. I've looked and looked by can't seem to find a definitive answer.
