The workers speed is 50% in anarcy and 150% in democracy. Double for industrious civs, and when you get replacementparts, divide by 2 for foreign workers. Thats it I think.

But..
When you assign a job to a worker, he does the first turns job at once. The next turn, he waits until the very end of the turn.

1 industrious worker in democracy build a rode right away.
1 normal worker in democracy needs 2 turns, but it might look like 3 since he will finish after you hit next turn.

1 worker needs 4 turn to irrigate in monarcy.
2 workers needs 2 turns.
3 workers also needs 2 turns. 2 workers will be unemployed the last turn, but they would not notice that before its too late. If you set a new worker to finish their job the 2nd turn, all 3 will be free to do something else the same turn.

To be pedantic (and actually answer the question ;)), the following conditions will let you build roads in plains/desert/grassland, etc in 1 turn:

* Democracy + Industrious
* Democracy + Replacable Parts
* Industrious + Replacable Parts
* Democracy + Industrious + Replacable Parts (note that this will also give rails in 1 turn for grass/plains, etc, and will give roads in 1 turn even for hills (but not mountains, jungle, etc)

wow, thx for the help guys. More than I could have hoped for. :)

I got another question: When is civ3 conquests coming out? Soon I hope.. :D

Does the number of turns from 4000BC to 2050AD depend on tyhe difficulty level?
Also, at what point in the game does the length of each turn go down from 20 to 10 turns, 10 to 5, 5 tom 2 and 2 to 1 years?
thanks

Welcome to CFC, tom_l0! :)

No, the number of turns from 4000BCE to 2050CE does not depend on difficulty level. It is always 540 in an unmodded Civ3 game.

The length of each turn goes down from 20 to 10 years after 500CE, from 10 to 5 after 1500CE (IIRC). I can't remember the rest, somebody will add to this....

hi :)

How many shields produce one pop-rushed citizen?
Is it war with the nearest neighbour the easiest way to begining the game in deity?

thx for answer :à)

sorky

I think you mean how many shields are produced by pop-rushing one citizen. The way pop rushing (and cash rushing too) works is:

Identify number of shields required to complete project.
If there are NO shields accumulated at all, double that number.
Remember that answer

For pop rush. Divide that answer by 20. Round UP. That is the number of citizen who have to die to rush.
If that is more than 1/2 your citizens, you can't rush it yet. Either add more citizens (food based growth) or build it a bit more first/

For cash rush, multiply that answer by 4. That's how much gold you need. If you don't have that much, no dice. Get more gold or build it some more.

To your second question, I'm no deity expert, but I very much suspect the answer is NO. Deity AIs get huge numbers of extra units. You have one settler and one worker, they have 12 units, 2 settlers, 3 workers. Until you build up A LOT they will out number you. So I suspect being meek and humble is the best policy at first.

arghhh I lose all my post cause of the registering... : /
Post#1213, 2nd shot (telegraphic one ^^):

You think well, I'm french, english not easy for me, sorry for those bad gramatical senses ;)

20 shields = 1 citizen
21 shields = 2 citizens.. is it oki? :)

"If that is more than 1/2 your citizens, you can't rush it yet."
I don't understand this one... If I need 2 citizens for pop rushing and the city is a 3citizens one... I can do it even if 3/2 < 2... no? Im' sure yes but i'm not sure to understand your idea here :/

For the second point, i have tried warway and settler/building way and can't know what is the best (i don't have much experience in civ3) I just wanted to know the feeling of both beggining (begining?) for those good players around here :)
Quick war is easy with quick iron and catapult, it's not an obstacle ;) But cities don't have improvments cause they build lot of troops..

[edit] oops, thx for the quick answer ;à)
[re-edit] oki, it's "beginning"... can't put it on my brain this one ^^

Correct. You have to round up the result from the shields needed divided by 20, as MadScot mentioned.

Nope, you won't be allowed to whip 2 citizens from a size 3 city.

Oki for the pop rush (didn't understand the "round up")

I'm playing civ3 without PTW and without patch (1.027 i think..) and i could do it.. perhaps it's come with a patch.

Rounding up is to move up your result to the next closest integer, ex: 1.1 --> 2; 2.9 --> 3. So, it costs 1 citizen to finish something needing 1 to 20 shields, 2 citizens for 21-40 shields, etc. To efficiently use the whip, you may want to follow your city production closely. Ideally, you want to whip a citizen for 20 shields, not for only 1 or 2.

By the way, you can see your patch edition at the bottom left corner of the game starting screen. :)

oki 1.07f

Thx for infos ;)
It's a great place here, learning civ3 and english ^^

1.07 is the most original version. Later patches fixed a lot of bugs and exploits. To get patches, see here.

Same here, learning English and Civ. :)

Considering that you will have to expand at some point, your nearest neighbour is going to be your first target. When you attack them is often dictated by their proximity. I like to get 6 to 10 cities with barracks producing horses (or swords failing that), then attack. Sometimes you are forced to attack earlier, occasionally you hav emuch more room to expand.

In a recent quick game I was playing I destroyed my three rivals on a tiny map. Two of them reapeared and I destroyed them. It has been two turns since the last city was destroyed and I still havn't won. I cannot do diplomacy with anyone. Does one of the civs still have a settler about? I don't think they do because if they did, I would still be able to do diplomacy with them. I retired and on the screen where it shows everyone's picture the three other civs all have the "My civ is dead" photo so I really think I did conquer them all. Why havn't I won yet?
