Well, you definitely have to scale the pictures before you upload them, as there's no way to tell the forum to reduce the size when it displays them.

As I know zip about the PC utilities I can't help with instructions about how to do it in MS-Paint, but I'm sure there must be an option to scale the image somewhere before you save it as a GIF or a JPEG.

PS Hi Dianthus. ;) BTW, you've joined the ever-lengthening list of credits in the latest 20K culture calculator version now that it includes your graph idea.

In Paint, once you have the image cropped etc as you want, if it's still too big, go to Image>Attribute (Ctrl-E) and you can redefine the image size in pixels there. Then save the redefined image and it should be done. Right-click on the image file and look at 'Properties" to confirm it, if you want to be sure.

Personally, I don't use paint, because it's a bit clunky for this. But you can do it that way.

Thanks for responding again, Alan and MadScot.

How does everyone else do it? MadScot, how do you do it? What software do you use?

I would prefer Photo Editor if that can be used or something not as antiquated as MS-Paint. I don't have to use MS-Paint.

Whatever's the easiest method, is what I'd prefer.

So far, I guess, the gist of attaching a screenshot (and for those who also want to know how to do it) is:

1) Press 'Print Screen' button on keyboard
2) Go into MS-Paint (or whatever) and Paste the image in
3) Save as 'filename'
4) Doctor the file so that's 800 pixels wide (how?)
5) Upload the file onto CivFanatics server using the 'Upload File' facility at the foot of the thread
- attach files using Browse Files 1 to 3 and press Upload!
6) Then in 'View New Upload Folder5' right click the file that I want to include and don't forget to use '
' at the end

That should be it. Yes?

OK. Just testing that it works with a file that's already there. Apologies if this is your file but I needed something and somewhere to get a grip of this...

A-ha!

No spaces between the code at the beginning and end.

Sorry, if I'm boring you guys but this is VERY exciting stuff (for me, at least).

OK, just gotta get a grip of the screenshot editing bit...

Thanks for your help guys - Dianthus, AlanH and MadScot.

That's more or less it. I use a combination of MS-Paint and MGI Photosuite 4. Small details below.

1) Press 'Print Screen' button on keyboard. You can also use ALT-Prnt Scrn which just copies the active window. Not much use with Civ, which uses the whole screen anyway, but useful to know for other stuff.
2) Go into MS-Paint (or whatever) and Paste the image in. If you are doing a lot of screenshots, keep Paint open. Using ALT-Tab you can swap between open windows which saves having to re-open the paint program all the time.
3) Save as 'filename'
4) Doctor the file so that's 800 pixels wide. This is where I wait until I have finished the game session. I open the file with Photosuite and use the crop function to zero in on the piece of the screenshot I want, use the cutout function to e.g. cut the minimap and put it somewhere more useful, and use the adjust function to change the size in pixels. I also make sure the file is a JPEG at this point (since the bmp that paint defaults to is usually too big)
5) Upload the file onto CivFanatics server using the 'Upload File' facility at the foot of the thread. To ensure there's no name confusion I try to put my userid into the file name. There must be a thousand "4000bc.jpg" files on there by now:)
- attach files using Browse Files 1 to 3 and press Upload!
6) Then in 'View New Upload Folder5' right click the file that I want to include and don't forget to use '
' at the end. I use the list of files and right-click the one I want to "open in new window" then I can copy the URL from the new window and paste it into the {img}{/img} tags knowing the capitalisation etc is correct.

I tend to use Photoshop for manipulating the image, but used to use Paint. Some tips :
  1. You can check the size of the image and crop it by going to the Image->Attributes menu. Make sure you've selected Pixels as the units.
  2. You can also resize by dragging the little square in the middle on the right and the middle at the bottom (just outside the image)
  3. You can move the image around by selecting it (Edit->Select All), then dragging it around.
  4. You can shrink the image by going to the Image->Stretch/Skew menu, then entering values less than 100% for Horizontal/Vertical Stretch. (Tip, 78.125% reduces 1024x768 to 800x600)
    [/list=1]

Hello. I've got a question, as I'm a bit stumped right now. Can a worker clear jungle or forest in someone else's territory? I'm trying to bring some much needed irragation into my water-poor land, and need to go through a patch of jungle. I hit shift-c, but nothing happens. What, if anything, am I missing?

I believe it can.... Or atleast... the AI workers clear my jungle.

You can change the land improvement in the AI territory only when you have a ROP with them, IIRC.

Thanks AlanH, MadScot and Dianthus for your help.

I had a play this morning when I finished shift and seem to have it working OK. On saying that, there was some experience learnt after trying to upload '*.bmp' files onto the server. It doesn't work and the Easy Upload Editor actually does not specify '*.bmp' files as acceptable anyhow. But I didn't relise that until I'd sat and waited for the files to be sent. You live and learn!

I've posted some images successfully this morning albeit the quality is poor. I'm sure I'll have it cracked by the next time I post.

Thanks again.

I do have ROP. I've built a couple of roads in AI territory, I've even irrigated a square that the AI had mined. But upon moving into the next jungle square, and trying to clear it so I can continue the irrigation, the workers do nothing when I hit shift+c. Perhaps a glitch? I dunno.

thanks guys for the answer.

another question if I may: how come I can't conduct any other espionage missions than steal tech and investigate city? what about propaganda and such?

(yes, I have intelligence center or what it was called again, as well as embassies)

Thanks again!

You have to plant a spy first. :) Just double-click on the intelligence agency's icon in whatever city you built it...I think it's a pentegon or something.

Really? That's kind of lame. I wonder... what's the reasoning behind that one? Oh well, guess I'll just have to move the troops in, and take that irrigation water source for myself.

At any rate: Thanks for the help Cannon!:goodjob:

No prob. I have a question. If you edit one of your posts on this forum does it automatically say EDIT somewhere in the post.
I edit probably 1/3 of my posts due to spelling or grammar but I don't see the word EDIT in my posts anywhere. I'm wondering if others can?

at what point in the game are your workers able to build roads, mines, irrigation etc. IN ONE TURN and why is this?

That's not an easy question, as there are several factors invovled. Basically, if you're in Democracy, and are past replaceable parts, you workers are as fast as you can get them. They get a speed bonus for being in Democracy. This lasts as long as you're in Demo. They get a perm bonus in Replaceable Parts. This stays no matter what gov you are.
