Age also dictates how close together these are. Young worlds tend to clump the mountains and grasslands together. Medium is a mix of the two, and in an old world it tends to me more plains/grasslands and less mountians/hills.

My game: I have huge WW from fighting in democracy against the Mongols, I went to communism in the end to avoid being overthrown. In communism I have attacked the celts (in such a way that it would have gained me some WWP if I had been in rep/demo)
My question: If I make peace with the Mongols (I cannot make peace with the celts because they are too angry with me) and go to rep/demo will I suffer from any WW? And if so will it be just the WW accumulated by fighting the celts whilst in communism? or will i suffer all the WW until i make peace with the celts too.

I have read the WW articles and I think I won't have any - but this is an epic PBEM with anarres and I want a definitive answer before I make a decision that could lose the game! :D

thx in advance :)

I believe war weariness is separate and tallied for each war. If you end one war but not another you have only WW for the one that you're still fighting. In an example like yours, let's say that you're in democracy fighting two wars. You sign peace in one (It's WW goes away), but you still want to slug it out in one (say annares). You then switch to commie to keep the riots down. WW continues to 'accumulate ' although the effect is not 'seen' in commie. You then switch to republic thinking that there's less WW than democracy. The WW from the war you're still in will then take effect because it has accumulated since the start date of that particular war (back when you were in democracy).

capiche?

One other thing to note: If you DON'T allow a 20 turn peacedeal to run it's course, and you redeclare 'prematurely' you will get back ALL of the WW from your previous skirmish, even if you redeclare 19 turns into your peacetreaty.

thx cannon.

in the end we got someone to run the turns for us to find out as our peace deal depended on the result :)
it turns out I am okay - the WW from fighting anarres (Mongols) does dissappear when we make peace and I go to republic even though I am still at war with the celts, this is as u suggest and as I suspected, but I had to be 100% sure!

and no fear with the 20 turn rule, that is well known... I managed to squeeze a 27 turn peace deal in the end just for good measure :D

I was reading the FAQ and noticed several things.
If I have a building, say a park, that has a pollution value of "-1" and something that has a "1" in one city with a recycling center, will the building pollution be 1 or 0? In other words to determine pollution does it use the value B+P, where B=sum(building.pollution) rounded up to 0 if negative and down to 1 if above 1 and has recycling center and P=citizens-12 also rounded up to 0 if negative and down to 1 if above 1 and has mass transit.

It also said that industrial and commercial civs only had their extra shield or trade icon, respectively, added if the city is metro sized 13+. Is that true? If so it makes them alot less useful and commercial pointless IMHO. Or does that mean that the cities get 1 if cities sized and 2 if metro sized while regular civs only get 1 icon total?

In the culture flip formula it starts with a value equal to the number of it 21 square radius in another border + number of foreign citizens (2*revolters). Does that 21 square count even if it has limited culture and hasn't expanded yet. Plus does it mean if I have a city without foreign citizens (or with foreign citizens or expired civs) and it can use all 21 squares, it will have 0% chance of flipping, regardless of the other factor involved?

Final question. If I have a small wonder with 0 culture, a mod I guess, and it is captured, will they get to keep it? What if they have it already?
Do small wonders always get lost and great never regardless of other circumstances involved?

That I could test but I don't want to.

Just a few quick questions:

(Playing Civ3 v1.29f)

Let's say the AI contacts me for a trade, let's say they want my world map + alphabet in exchange for their world map, assuming I don't want to make this trade and what I do instead is give them my territory map for free, does that work against me since I didn't give them what they wanted in the first place?

Another question, let's say I want to trade for a tech, so I contact another Civ and then I find out that they don't have the tech I want, does it make them angry if I contact them and then just click "never mind" ?

Thanks in Advance.

@slothman: That one extra shield and commerce industrious and commerical civs get is insignificant anyways (unless you are micromanaging production). What makes industrious very useful is the work bonus. Commercial is considered a bit less useful, but it gets reduced corruption.

Small wonders are never captured, they are destroyed (tested).

@TheMadGod: No I don't believe it affects AI attitude if you don't give them what they came for (except when they demand tribute). You should not just give away your maps however, they can be quite valuable.

It does not affect AI attitude if you contact them and then click never mind.

If you break the 20 turn deal, you get a rep hit, but it has nothing to do with ww. wwp decrease with 1/20 per turn, 27 turns was probably not enough to eliminate all wwp.

Hi Oystein, I have read your thread on WW along with the older thread by Bamspeedy DaveMcW et al. The 20 turn factor - whereby all WW from a specific civ vanishes after 20 turns of peace with that civ is the biggest disagreement between the two threads. I have to say most people I have asked are quite deifinite about it being 20 turns and then it all goes... have you got a test scenario that proves otherwise? Not to doubt you as such but a LOT of very experienced civvers disagree with your conclusions. It would be good to know once and for all which is correct :)

And when you say 1/20 turn do you mean 1/20 of the current WWP? for example lets say there are 100WWP, so after 1 turn 5WWP are deducted, the next turn would there be 1/20 of 95WWP deducted?... Or if you mean it would be 1/20 of the original deducted each turn then it will always reach 0 after 20 turns... I'm confused!

I have spend quite some time testing reduction of ww in peace, and in the end, I could predict when ww would hit in again (assuming only well known wwp increases in war). I know there is no 20 turn rule, no mather how many civers claiming it.

It is 1/20 of current wwp round up. Also reduce by 1 if wwp>30 and you keep out of enemies territory.
If you start with 100 it goes 94,88,82,76,71,66,61,56,52...

Why does the lettering in some posts (threads) show up in white? I was just in general discussions; all the views # and Last post dates were in white letters. I have noticed this in a few threads as well. White letters are very hard to see on the lite gray back ground. Is there a way to select general character color in threads?

Edit: I went back to general discussions after posting this and the white lettering had corrected it's self. It was black again. What is going on?

Small note on the white letters [which like to come along with forum pop up adds... still!]: Related site feetback thread is here.;)
(I think there's actually some more threads about it)

Thanks ya'll.

Grille: I went to site feedback. It is nice to know some one is working on this. I would never have suspected pop-ups as the cause and illegal pop-ups at that. Junk mail you can't escape; even here.

eric2075: I will try refresh.

slothman, I noticed nobody had answered this for you.

The 21 tile count applies to any city, even if its borders have not expanded yet. In addition, the only way to guarantee 100% that a city will not flip is to garrison it with sufficient troops. How many is "sufficient" can be calculated from the forumula:

G = (F+T)*Cc*H*(Cte/Cty)

For a city within your own territory (i.e., not having its borders impinged upon by foreign borders), and containing no foreign citizens, the required garrison to prevent a flip is ... zero. ;) So. in effect the city has zero percent chance of flipping. :D

After I submit a reply, is there some way to get back to the next topic or pick another thread to read?

The way I normally get to another thread is hit the back button on my brouser, but that doesn't help much after making a reply, it just takes me back to what I said.

I am going up to the top of the page and under CivFanatic quick links going to forum home, but that is a little round about. Before that I had to log out of Civ Fan entirely.

This delay probably keeps me from responding to postings as much as I otherwise would, so perhaps this is a feature, rather than a bug, to keep the number of replys to a manageable level?

I usually open links in a new window so I can shut down ones when I reply or I have finished.

In Internet Explorer you can Shift+Click a link to open it in a new window (slightly faster than richt clicking and selecting the option).

Alternatively just use the link at the top or bottom of the page to go where you want:

you can also click on 'reuse windows for links or some such in the explorer setup. See the attached. . .

It works for links embedded in posts and sigs, and for the 'user CP' buttons and such it will use the same window instead of a new one. The bottom/top chain links will stay in the same window too.

Didn't know that about the Shift-Click. . . cool. . .

How do you transport to islands before transport ships are available? I see the AI has done it WAY earlier that transport ships are available. How??
