I'm new to this series, I just bought Civ III:Complete about a month ago. I love it. :)

I just started getting into playing and downloading mods. I've been having a few problems getting them to work, though. I've already read the faq about downloading mods, and I also go through all the mb posts about the mod and read any readme files in a mod that I download. Some mods work just fine, but others won't work at all. When I try to load them, I get an error message saying that a certain text or graphic file can't be found, and the game exits. Not all of the mods do this, only some of them. The Desert and the Mountain (the one about Africa), the Last of the Mohicans, the one about the American Revolution, and some others all do this to me. Other mods I've downloaded are fine- the Rise and Fall of the Roman empire, Rhye's, Rise and Rule, etc. all work perfectly. I have the Ancient Mediterranean mod, and it crashes only when I select certain civilizations on the starting page- if I make sure not to click on any of those civilization, and I don't include them in the rival civilzation lists, the game works perfectly.

How do I get these mods to work?

Also, I downloaded the Anno Domini mod, but I can't seem to get it to work, either. When I go to the Civ Content section, it doesn't appear anywhere in the list. If I go to where the file is at on my computer and click on it, Civ 3 starts, but Anno Domini is still not found. I noticed that it was a rar file, and none of the other mods I've downloaded are in that format. Is there something I need to make it work?

Best to ask in the thread where you downloaded the mod. There's usually instructions in the first post, or in a readme.txt file included with the download.

Look at teh dates the mods were first created in that thread. I would expect some of them may be older that the date of Conquest and other older than PTW. What that means is some were made to work with Vanilla Civ3.

It could also be that those meant for Conquest (C3C) need to have some of the file put in the vanilla folders. I have at least one that does.

Alright I have another question. I was wondering if maybe the reason why I'm having trouble getting some mods to work is because I don't have the latest patch from the Civ3 website. When I was reading through some of the posts about the mods I downloaded, I noticed that quite a few of them said that the patch needed to be downloaded.

So, I went to the Civ3 website and downloaded the v1.22 patch and installed it. When I went to play the game, a message popped up saying to put in the Conquests CD. (I have Civ3:Complete, which I bought about a month ago. It comes with three discs, the only time that I used the last two discs was when I installed it. And I've been playing with the first disc in my computer since then with no problems.) So I put in the third disc and tried to play again. Got the same message, then tried the second disc, got the same message. I tried to delete the patch, but I couldn't get it to work and I kept getting the same message.

I messed with it for awhile, but ended up having to uninstall and reinstall the game. It's fine now. I was just wondering if I don't need the patch on my game. Is it already included? I'm guessing that this is the latest version of the game to come out. Did the patch come out before my game did, so mine doesn't need it?

BTW, vmxa and Turner, I took your advice. I read through the readmes and posts and realized that some of the mod files were in the wrong folders, and I got two of them to work. So thank you.

Civ 3 Complete comes with ALL the Final Patches for Civ/PTW/C3C, so you don't need to download any versions.

You can run Vanilla, Play The World or Conquests by leaving Complete's Disc 1 in the drive. You can see what the version number is by looking in the bottom left-hand corner of the Main Menu screen. (Viz. Final version for Conquests is 1.22, Vanilla 1.29, PTW 1.27.) :)

Okay, thank you. I've read in a couple other places that Civ 3 Complete was a bit screwy with mods sometimes...

Oh well. I don't have as many classes this summer, so I decided I'd buy a cheap game to entertain me for a bit. I picked it out because it looked decent and it was only 20 bucks. I just never guessed that I'd get this into it.

I can live with it if some mods won't work. :( I'll just be a bit sad...

@Eternity: Try putting a game or two in the HOF..........Complete is perfect for that.......no mods needed..............mostly Conquests games but sometimes Vanilla/PTW will give you a better score/faster finish. ;)

LAN; network game problem

Don't know if this should be psoted here or not but here goes;

I am trying to get a LAN game going through a wireless home network,.
The network works fine, both computers conected. I have CIV III Play the World on both computers installed from 2 different CDs.

For some reason, the screens are slightly different on both computers, the main differentce being that on e has 'connect to IP' above the 'powered by ???' logo and the other does not. Another key difference is that one computer asks the type of game 'network' or 'internet' (4 choices) through a prompt when choosing 'multiplayer' game at the start menu while the other does not prompt but rather leaves a drop down menu once on the multiplayer page.

When either computer tries to host a game, the other computer cannot see the game to join (not with refresh).

I don't know if this is a bug of some sort, the type of windows that is installed on the computers nor how to get around it. Any advice or info (patch required perhaps) would be appreciated.

(PS: I have dissabled my firewall on both machines).

Thank you everyone.

No, if they are from different CD's it might be a different version.

But if I install and patch 1.27f version they should then be compatible right?

thanks gents (ladies?), I'm sure I'll be able to make it work tonight. Will let you know if I need any more help.

Regards,

ail.

(PS: what if i install with the same cd on both computers, but run the game with the different CDs?)
