I think it seems as if the settler costs 2gpt in Despotism since city drops 2 pop, which were using commerce tiles.Settler -1gpt, tiles -1gpt. :gold:

Am I right, cause early game always seems as if the settler cost 2gpt.

Sets them in a 'sleep' mode until a unit comes near them. It can be set for any unit, or enemy only.

And you should have a copy of the manual on your cd. Check the 'Manual' directory for a .pdf version of it.

Good question, but I never used it. I think it is suppose to follow a unit and attack any hostile units. I would be afraid to trust it.

Can somebody post a few basic guidelines about where to build the Forbidden Palace? Like, how far from the capital? Mention any other relavant factors, too, please. C3C.

It almost does not matter where in C3C. I would not spend much time on its location value, unless I is a AW type, where you expect to have spare MGL's to rush it with.

Mostly I still it up near the the capitol as you need a decent shield output to do it in reasonable time, if by hand.

I lucked out and got an MGL in this game since I'm not playing AW this time I'm going to use the leader to rush it. Alternative is wait 10 turns and build a Knight Army. I do not need a Knight Army though - my neighbor is the only one I'd want to war on now becuase they are just a little faster than me in tech research, but they - the Spanish - don't have iron so I don't really need an army to take what I want from them.

Armies save you losing units, you may or may not be better off with the FP at this stage. It will basically increase your OCN, which lowers corruption a bit.

If you have a city that could do the FP in a reasonable amount of turns, that may be better. You need that first army to get to three and the pentagon.

Anyway it is not cut and dry, but in the main I will take the army over the FP. Again, if it is a game that I can expect lots of MGL's, then I probably already have a number of armies.

In Conquests, can you get an SGL from a tech popped from a goody hut? I've never seen it happen, but you can get them from the free tech given by Philosophy, and I think I've heard of times that scientific civs get them from the free tech given at a new ERA.

Anyone know?

I don't know, but philo for sure and I do not see why the scientisfic one could not. I have not see anyone say they got one from a tech in the huts and I would be surprised if a check was not done for that and disallow it.

The problem with popping techs from huts is that the tech is generally the cheapest one available. The cheapest ones available are usually ones that have been discovered by the AI. So the odds are against it.

I'm sure in certain situations you could pop the cheapest tech, and no one has discovered it yet. So there's a small chance you could do it.

Based on my experience, I would agree with vmxa that a check is done to disallow producing an SGL via a Hut-Tech.

I would also agree with Turner that predominantly the cheapest or 2nd-cheapest tech is the one you will receive. (But not exclusively.) :)

Technical Detail:
My conclusion is based on playing literally hundreds of start positions (No exaggeration.....See HOF entries for Conquest/Tiny Maps) using the following criteria:

Chieftain/Warlord/Regent Level
Inca v Maya+Iroquois
Tiny Map
Only accept maps with Hut visible in start position (Using MapFinder program).

Inca starts with Pottery+Masonry
Maya starts with Pottery+Masonry
Iroquois starts with Pottery+Alphabet

Most of the time you will pop Ceremonial Burial or Warrior Code which none of the other civs have yet discovered.

I have NEVER gotten an SGL. :)

I went one step further. I set up a map and assigned a start position to player 1. Around that position I placed literally dozens of huts. I started the game as russia at cheiftain difficulty. Through several runs of reaching the middle ages in less than ten turns, I received no SGLs.

Does air recon missions influence in any way follow-on air bombardments in the same turn or does it just reveal terrain and units?

No, it just reveals the Fog of War and the underlying terrain and units.
