In Conquests, Map Trading has been moved to be enabled with the discovery of Printing Press. So even if you all can *Make* Maps, you can't trade them until later.
Actually, map trading comes with navigation. Communication trading is enabled with printing press.

Make sure you uninstall Civ3 completely before installing complete. Move your scenarios/mods/maps/saves to a different location outside the civ dir tree...

Gelion - on the toolbar below File - Edit - etc., you should see some buttons: terrain, resources, and overlay (use mouseover to read descriptions). If you click overlay, you'll get a menu; select "Starting Location". Then you can place the blue circles on any tile on the map so people will start there. To assign them to a particular civilization, just right click them and select "Assign".

You might also want to change the civilization distances value under the World Sizes tab in the Edit Rules section (I think it's "Starting Distance" or something similar, so that the rule is that civilizations should start around X tiles from you).
Thank you for your help :) I just saw your post. The trouble is that the location for a start is already set. Whenever I start I don't get even close to where I am supposed to be, even though the map says otherwise :confised:
Is this a trouble of the actual CivIII settings?

For a preset starting point, just jump to the part where he says 'Right click on starting postition'....

All you do is just right click it and say "Reassign". Or, you click on "Properties" when you right click it, and then you assign it to a civilization. I tried with my Civ3 Editor and it worked fine. It's not as if this was covered in the FAQ...

;)

I just started playing civ3. I believe I have the original release. After playing a couple of games and dealing with massive corruption, I decided to see what patches were out there.

I downloaded and ran v1.29f. It appeared to install correctly, but now when I try to start civ3, it is not recognizing the CD in the drive. Any suggestions?

Try just opening the CD drive and closing it again. Works for me. :)

Welcome to CFC, McGoo! :)

You could do as gmaharriet instructed, and if that doesn't work, are you sure you downloaded the correct language for the patch? Sometimes that can cause issues.

Nope. Resources are placed at the beginning of the game and will stay there regardless if the terrain has been changed. Such as clearning a jungle and taking away a coal resource. Won't happen.

However, if you change a jungle tile to grassland, you can't get coal there in the future.

I have a question I'm hoping someone can help me.
Almost everytime I play a game when I reach the modern era and discover something that requires aluminum there is no aluminum to be found.
Now this is not because there is no aluminum on the map for I have made and customized these maps myself and know exactly where to find aluminum.
I assume this is some kind of glitch can someone tell me why this happens and how I can prevent it please!?!?
p.s. this is quite aggrivating because I invest all this time into a game and just when I'm about to finish it, this happens!

Welcome DanielB. :)

This is because resources "appear" and "disappear". When you discover a tech for a resource, only part of all the resources will appear. Then, some will deplete over time and reappear elsewhere. I'm not sure if customizing the game has anything to do with it - it should work...

Coal can still appear, it will just not reappear if it depletes. :(

I've had a similar question for a while:

If I see wine, or iron, or horses, or a resource that has yet to appear to me. If i build a city on that tile, what happens to it?
