There are so many pages of these questions...

I've downloaded a couple of mods now and everytime I start a new game there appears some sort of a "pilar" in the same tile as where my settler is. What is this? It doesn't appear when I start a "normal" (not downloaded) game.

(I don't know if this is the right section to ask this, sorry if it's not)

Linvar: Post a screenshot of this. It might be a victory point location.

A couple of more questions for denyd and TruePurple: Should I go ahead and play the first 10 turns of the game with a 4000 BC screenshot and a screenshot of whatever year it would be after 10 turns? You know, sort of like a Before and After shot?

When I start the new thread, which would be the best forum to post it in: Civ3 General Discussion, Strategy and Tips, or wherever those Succession games' threads are posted?

One final comment, you might want to take a look at the last couple COTM pre-game threads. From just the opening screen shot you'll read about lots of reasons for making different moves.

What is COTM? And where are they located?

If you are going to play solo game, post it in Civ3 - Stories & Tales

I looked at some of the threads there. I'm not planning on writing the great American novel with my game journal. I'll just write down movements I make, cities I build, etc. Maybe a little flavor text, but probably not much.

Well if you wish to discuss the strategy of a game without storyline, many people put it in strategies forum. Once someone moved my thread from strategies to storyline, but then again I've seen many a thread like that in strategies not moved. (mods seem to go by whether you post screenshots or not, which seems like a illogical ruler to me)

I think a number of people who post/read the storyline forum appreciate people not posting none storied games there, what ever the mods say. But maybe I'm wrong

It only works when enemy units move from one tile to another where both tiles are adjacent to the zoc unit. The AI seems to know about this and avoids the situation.
I've had ~40+ AI units go past a barricade with units in it. Going from one zone controlled square to another and never getting hit.

I will definitely be posting screenshots, so which forum would be the better choice?

Padma says:

That's okay, the best place would still be Stories & Tales.

So with screenies, is Stories & Tales still the best choice? I just don't want to make extra work for anybody having to move my thread.

And the time for my own question :)
On what turn first AI usually get philosophy? I need to know this to determine, can I make Republic slingshot or no... Settings are standart size, random civs (some will start with Alphabet of course), continents, demigod.

Sorry, Smart, I haven't a clue.

In order for me to begin my TDG, I need to know: Should I go ahead and play the first 10 turns of the game with a 4000 BC screenshot (and save) and a screenshot (and save) of whatever year it would be after 10 turns? You know, sort of like a Before and After shot?

Enquiring minds want to know. Oh, and I apologize for hijacking this thread. It wasn't intentional.

:mischief:

Um, I don't think this is a thread that really CAN be hijacked. It's meant to be a little of this and a little of that, and the topic changes constantly. It's ok here to interrupt other people's conversations and they will feel free to interrupt yours. There are often several going at once, so I think you're ok.

i took the advice given about not building temples and found that my border towns very quickly flipped. is there any way to stop this happening??

Build at least one culture improvement in every city, or just build the Temple of Artemis.([c3c])

Another factor is the barb setting (ie are there goody huts). I remember doing the Republic slingshot on demigod archipelago no barbs. I've gotten monarchy free several times.
