It's also a good idea to rename all of your ships to something like, GalleonA, GalleonB, GalleonC, etc, so that when you want your units to change ships you don't just reload them onto the same ship again. If they start out on GalleonA, you want to be sure they move to GalleonB (or whatever you've named it).

I disagree.....It's not a program bug.

And, AFAIK, it's not banned in HOF or GOTM, which are competitive games. :)

I believe it's an RBCiv rule, and theirs are much more strict. It's certainly up to the individual in playing private games. OTOH, if you're playing a Succession Game, it's best to check the opening post for which set of rules are being used (and sometimes you just KNOW how your team mates feel about it). :)

I think it's more acceptable if you're playing multi-player games against other humans. The AI will never do it, but other humans will. :p

@Grandma: Interesting. I guess many people come out on both sides of this issue.

BTW, what is RBCiv? :)

Actually the Demo games I have played we did not allow chaining. HoF rules are very slack. I mean you can rig the game in your favor with no problem.

I did not say it was a bug, it is an exploit. That means players can do it and gain a big advantage, but the AI cannot do it. It is just too strong to use against a hapless AI.

In the HOF, the object is not to beat the AI but to beat other humans........so, I don't see that it matters what the rules are, as long as everybody abides by them. Personally, I think the HOF Rules have been pretty well thought out........and thoroughly discussed.

...it is an exploit...
That is a matter of opinion.

So, play at a higher level. I've never heard anyone say Sid level was easy, with or without "exploits". :)

My philosophy is: If it's not a bug it's not an exploit. Firaxis wrote the game, so why not play by their "rules".

I think that philosophy is flawed. They wrote the game and it has many holes that I am sure they would have preferred to remove. Anyone is free to play as they wish, that is not the point.

How hard the game is does not matter. My point is not that you or anyone cannot use chaining, only that you are giving yourself an unfair advantage.

As to the HoF, I agree they did a good job on the rules, but none the less they are too lax. The Realms rules are a better set.

If I pillage, assuming I can pillage, someone elses colony, is it an act of war? Seems like it might not be because they don't own the property.

A colony is pillaged by simply moving a unit on top of it. That is an act of war.

However, there are other things you can do. Pillaging the road leading to the colony is not an act of war. Also, if you can build a new city or get a cultural expansion that would cause the colony to come under your borders, they lose the colony, you gain the resource, and it's not an act of war, either. :)

Hey 1 more turn posting >>
I upgraded my vanilla Civ 3... well...uninstalled it and installed Civ 3 Complete. Brand New purchase today, they exchanged my vanilla (for a lump sum of gold - they trade like Queen of England).
In the cornor of the left side where the version is listed it says .22
My guess is that the 1 is off the screen, the .22 is exactly on the left graphic's edge.
Do I need any patches? Do I need to look at all three game versions I have?

Quick question.. or two

1) I know a defender gets some protection from being on a hill or in forest but do attackers get any sort of advantage when attacking from those or simular squares?

2)Is there a way to unload troops from an army?

No, only defensive advantages.
2)Is there a way to unload troops from an army?
No, sorry.

1) no, atackers do not get any bonuses

2) in C3C no, there is not

[there was some way earlier (removed?)]
