I played a game from someone else's save (Lord Emsworth) and a couple of interesting things are happening.

I have Vanilla and I don't remember ever getting notices that other civs were starting on Wonders; I get a notice saying they have completed them but not the starts. I now get that info. Does this mean my game has been brought up to snuff or has it *improved*?

Secondly, at some point in the game all actions are on hyperdrive and I can't find anything to change this. I like to see the actions happening and I find this disconcerting.

I tried toggling between "show"and Änimate" neither did anything to change the speed. what can I do to get back to my usual leisurely pace?

I have started (but not won or completed) a couple of games since I won that game from the save and I am wondering if my computer is instituting the last saved preferences from a completed game? :hmm:

Thanks guys.

Simply try loading one of your old games, then you'll get back your settings with it. After you've loaded it, exit to the mainscreen (i.e. hit escape and confirm) and start a new game. That should take over the settings 'permanently.'

Or something like that anyway.

@Tad Empire_0_o: When I had problems with this there were a few suggestions that I found in the CAII thread. For my situation, I couldn't see how to run the program as an administrator so I took the advice of someone else and turned off User Account Control via the Security Centre. Vista doesn't like that setting but it works in my case. You might want to try that out but I recommend that you go back over the last few pages of the CAII thread to see what other people suggest as I guess that it really depends what your error is. If that doesn't help make a note of the type of error and post it there.

@darski: are you saying that changing options in your Preferences had no affect? If so it could be that you had Caps Lock on as this overides the animate option. I too like to see what my rivals are doing but when there are large number of units involved moving as massive stacks so I sometimes hold down shift as this also speeds up the movement but I can quickly release the shift button if something unusual starts to happen. Lord Emsworth is correct (of course) about loading an old save in getting back to your old settings but this won't help if it is the Caps Lock problem.

Hello,
is it possible to change your nation. For example I want to change the nation I currently have in a WWII scenario. Is this possible?

At game creation, you can chose one, half way a game, no...

Though, I suppose with some kind of 3rd party cheat program, you can, but I'm unaware of the existence of any such program for Civ3.

Thank you. I'll try that.

Regarding the Caps lock... I may have hit that at some point but I don't remember doing so and certainly not on purpose. Thanks for the tip... I'll check in the game.

IIRC you need an embassy to see someone starting a wonder.

Follow Up- still no luck with CA going automatically. In fact it won't load from autosves, only egular saves. I can still save/load turn by turn and in late games I probably will. Thanks all for the input.

BTW: Game rtrivia time-anyone recognize my new avatar?

Nope-Linda the friendly mutant lung fish friom Psychonauts!

I have a problem with all the scenarios I download. They all start in the year 4000 BC.
Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Probably the Mod forum has someone who could help.

I recall some others who have had that sort of problem with the date in scenarios. Usually it was because they were not patched to Conquests version 1.22. Look at what version you're running, you might need the patch. :)

The spy mission for propoganda is where you pay a (usually very large) sum, and have a chance of the city defecting to your civilization. In my experience, it is almost always a far less effective (and more costly) method than just gathering up a few troops and taking the city by force. ;)

IIRC, the sucess of the mission depends on a lot of things, such as government types, the more Amiable the civilization is toward you, the more likely the city is to flip to you (There is a place in the editor you can go to modify how much they like you).

Lots of things, such as if you are using their shunned Govt. might influence it, i think in the editor it has a ratio or a % of how much they like any other civ, like 50% being neutral and you either go above or below to make them like or hate you (not sure on this), it all depends really on what civ you play, say if you were playing with France against Austria you could make the Austrians hate you by modifying the Editor.

%? Where...?
