The AI won't fight amongs themselves very much. I think they'll wimp out of alliances more easily, but I'm not sure about that.

It's no guarantee of safety--I've been sneak attacked by the Koreans ~2000 BC when using least aggressive (a declaration that early means one of his free warriors must've set off in my direction almost from the start; maybe he was just exploring and decided to declare war after he saw I only built a Granary and Settlers).

You will get a quieter game, both in term of the AI attacking you, and them attacking each other. As noted, that won't make the game war-free, just less. The only potentially unintended consequence I can think of is an increase in the science rate. Wars tend to slow down research.
 
Thank you gentlemen. I think it might suit a game I am planning to play. time to try Spain - just for the experience.
 
Ok, how do I get more than one iron source
on my
ENTIRE PANGAEA?​

I have set the incidence at 500 but I sincerely doubt that it will work at all. I haven't loaded up yet another stupid game to find out.


Is there a magic number??? a secret handshake??? Do I have to throw Bismark from the train???

Darski, there are two things you can do. One is set the Iron appearance rate to Zero, which is the same setting as the bonus resources. Also, set the disappearance rate to Zero, so that it does not vanish. However, this will only work on the map that you generate with the editor and save. IT DOES NOT CHANGE THE DEFAULT SETTING IF YOU USE THE MAP GENERATOR IN THE GAME START-UP PROCESS.

The other is use the edtior to generate a Pangaea map to your specifications, and then place additional Iron resources on the map. As long as you do not designate any of the starting locations to a specific civilization, the starting positions of the various civilizations will still be randomized. You will need to save the resultant .biq files to your Conquests Scenario folder.

I will play around with the editor tonight, and see what combination works best. I understand how frustrating that is as I have had the same thing happen with respect to Iron, Coal, Uranium, and Rubber.
 
I did set the appearance rate to zero in both the vanilla and the Conquests bic/biq and played (started) 3 games today - on small maps you can search them out quickly. They all had only one iron resource per pangaea.

I know I can't play with it set to 500 but I was ticked at the time. :lol:
 
In Rat 29, Iron is plentiful on our Pangaea, there are 3 Irons on just what we can see. I think resources match the size of the map, modified by whether all civ slots are full. I've noticed on huge maps, resources are plentiful, and small/tiny maps they are rare.
 
Even allowing for the small map - I have never before seen only one resource for the entire map.

Interestingly enough - with my Iron set at 500 I did get plenty of iron on my new map - also Pangaea - except of course my pangaea map placed me on a small island with tons of bonus resources but not Iron!!!

Darski, I ran a bunch of trial maps last night, with the following results.

Pangaea, small, 70% water, normal, temperate = always had 6 iron.
Same settings but tiny, always had 4 iron.
Same settings but standard, always had 10 iron.

Based on your report of what happened when you changed the setting, I suspect that there is a problem with the resoource randomizer when you start from the map settings in the start up process. You could try reloading the game after backing up anything that you want to save.

As for a map that put you on an island with no Iron, if you are generating the map, you can either set your starting location on the main land mass, or make sure that the islands have Iron as well. Either way would work, although I would probably prefer the island start to give me some peace and quiet while I got my economy going.
 
I had the American's land a lot of troops next to my city. I then gave them a lot of GPT for branch technologies. Then demanded them to with draw their troops or declare war. They declared war so I never paid a single gold for the techs.

Do I take a rep hit?
 
No. They declared war; it wasn't your act that caused it.

You are correct, it is the person that declares war that takes the blame for any broken trades between the two.

However I think that it's worth pointing something else out about this aspect of the game. I did a test a while back on this about War Happiness. It turned out that I didn't get war happiness if my espionage mission lead to my rival issuing a declaration of war so it is useful if you want to get out of some trades but not if you want a bit of cheap happiness. The post is here.

Good work! This is very interesting.

However the thing that I found interesting was that although my actions had caused the war, other civs were still happy to trade with me. For example, before the war, Mursilis was happy to offer me 150g for Ivory.


This did not change after my spying activities had caused a deal to be broken with the Chinese. My rep was still intact.

Does this imply if a trade with a 3rd party is broken due to an espionage war declaration that there is no rep hit? I didn't know this either!

The AI declared war on you so of course your rep is still good :lol: Spying is an easy way to get the AI declare on you for war happiness ;)

I thought that trading rep took a hit no matter what caused the problem. If a passing barb ship can ruin your trade rep, this would seem to cause you problems as well.
