i have a question:
is there's a possibility to KILL any unit with aircraft? all i manage to do is to get it to half the HP. i can understand land troops, but ships too?! its annoying.

Quick Question,

When trading with another civ, I notice on the right side the resources I have to offer with a (#), with the # being how many I have. When trading a resource that I have (1) of, does the one mean I have 1 surplus, thus one for my civ and one to trade OR when I trade that resource am I trading the only resource I have in my civ?

I hope that makes sense, I am guessing the answer is the second choice I mentioned, but want to make sure.

Is there a way to start the game in the first place such that you don't need to go through the separate reloading to play a mod such as the Greek World game? It's getting to be obnoxious to have to go through the civ startup twice.

Yes. Open your Civilization.ini file (there's a link to it in your Civ folder). There's a line reading "Mod = 0". Change it to "Mod = Mods\Greek World". Save the file. Haven't tested it myself, but that's how I understand it.

But if you change cheatcode=0 to cheatcode=chipotle, then you will enable it. This is a must if you want to use the world builder (unless they fixed it without the cheatcode with the patch).

From what I remember, to start the cheat dialogue you also have to press the "~" key during the game, but I haven't used it yet. You can find more help at the origional thread if you need it.

Instead of starting up your game normally, doubly click your saved game. This will start Civ IV and immediately load your game. I would expect loading the correct mod in the process.

The city just needs to have access to it, the resources don't have to be in its radius.

I've been playing the civ franchise for a while now and have never touched on adding skins or mods. I downloaded some skins yesterday and have not been able to find out where to install them. I've seen posts on how to create a skin but nothing actually telling you where to put a downloaded one. can anybody let me know where in the civilizationIV folder they are supposed to go?

Units with first strike get to shoot first and can damage the enemy before they get to attack. Opposing first strikes will cancel each other out.

* Free strike means the unit gets a free attempt to damage the enemy before combat starts. Through promotions you could get many first strikes on a unit, up to 5-8 first strikes i believe. This would mean you get between 5 and 8 free shots at the enemy before combat.

* Trade routes are displayed on the left hand of your city screen. They bring in extra commerce. Early in the game your cities will have only one trade route, bringing in only 1 commerce. Suppose you are the Romans, it might look like this in the city screen of Rome:

Some techs, wonders (great lighthouse) and civics (free commerce), will add more trade routes. Later in the game, particularly in large and coastal cities, these can rake in a very significant amount of commerce. Foreign trade routes will make a lot more than domestic ones. (Note that you need open borders to have foreign trade routes.) Therefor discovery of astronomy (allows trade routes over oceans) can seriously boost your economy, and the civic mercantilism (no foreign trade routes) is a bad idea if you have good foreign connections.

So, if I trade my iron (1), then I can't build swordmen?

Population in Paris has dropped to 1 ! This is in late game (195?) What could be a reason for this ? I did have 'emphasize artist' turned on. Is that it ?

We probably need a little more information. Look at the city -- see how much food it is producing, being lost, etc. Did somebody plunder you farms? Did another city take the tiles near by through culture?

Emphasizing art may create some specialists but this seems a bit extreme ....

@I3lack Uh, there is no real way to look at every city for wonders unless you have spies but you can go to the victory screen or is it info screen? Well anyway in either of those two screens there is a screen in the bottom that says wonders/5 top cities. Hit that and it will show you the world's top five cities even if you haven't met those civs before. Also, with a good eye you can see some wonders in cities. Generally start looking in the earliest/biggest cities and then spread out to smaller cities to find the wonders. Also, you could cheat and open edit city mode in worldbuilder and "enter" a city to see what it has.

Has the intelligence of the AI been improved from Civ3?

Yes, sausnebb, the AI is greatly improved, and I don't think the AI is "better" on higher difficulty levels, they just get starting advantages like an extra worker or settler, depending on the difficulty level.

Noble is the level where the AI and you are on roughly equal footing.

Are the Religious Shirnes considered as national wonders, because for some reason (glitch?), Moses can't build the buddhist shrine at the city with national epic and hindu shrine..?

The throne room in Civ2 (or palace in Civ3) was a feature which rewarded you for successfully playing the game. Every once in a while, when your Empire flourished, you could choose something to make your throne room (or palace) larger, prettier etc. Like adding a carpet to the floor, or coats-of-arms to the walls, or (in case of a palace) build another story or side building.

It wasn't necessary to play the game, but a nice addition nevertheless.
