Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

How do you change the names of other civs and leaders?

I want to do this for a custom scenario.

Open the worldbuilder save with Notepad, find the lines naming the civs... edit and save.

Good luck!

Thank you to the ones that helped me out with drafting. It worked like a charm and I was able to strengthen my home guard as I was pumping troops into conquest.
:king:

My next stupid question is this: Does spreading a given religion (In this case Christianity) into an opponents city (Who happens to be Christian as well... just not in this city) give that opponent the cultural boost? Or just the player who's spreading it?

If the AI you spread it to is running that religion as state, or has no state religion then yes they get culture. You don't get culture or spreading them full stop.
By spreading an AIs state religion into on of its cities you also make Religious civic bonuses (OR/Pacifism/Theocracy) apply there, and it gives them +1:) in the city.

Good to know. I don't want to go around lending the AI a hand.

Thanks

Yeah... the only reasons I can think to do so would be if they are Friendly/Pleased and you are going for a religious victory and its the AP religion, then you are increasing their votes for you (just don't give so much that they become your opopnent). The other is if you have the shrine and the civ in question is not your significant opponent... you increase the shrine output (though not by as much as it helps the AI with AP bonuses). or maybe if you plan on taking that city anyhow. Or if they are defying AP resolutions and would suffer from unhappiness there. Or if there is a risk they convert to another religion you make it easier to convert them back.

There are probably other very situational reasons to spread to an AI city, but in general it is a waste of your resources.

Does the Aztec's Sacrifical Altar also halve the duration on Draft anger or just whipping? The Civilopedia's text says "Sacrificing population", which I'm not sure means Drafting too...

Just whipping.
Its already a strong contender for best UB, if it worked for Drafting too it would be leagues ahead of everything else!

I figured as much. XD Ah well, I tried.

I dunno if this is the right place to ask, but I also have a question for our multiplayer guys...

But what's a good way of finding a Pitboss game? I've been playing normalo Multiplayer a little and been reading up on Pitboss(And should prolly start looking at PBEM), but...I'm not really sure how to find an open game? I can't find any open games in, say, the Pitboss section of CF's multi or on, say, RB. I'm pretty sure just asking if one is avalibile on the forum wouldn't work, but maybe that's just how?

Sorry for the silly(And perhaps only tangentially relative to civ) question, though I suppose this topic is meant for newbie questions like that, but I don't wanna mess up my introduction to this kind of stuff. =)

Hey guys, I was wondering if someone could help me with this probem...

I can't seem to switch one of my cities to build the national epic.

I have a library
I Don't have two national wonders built in this city yet yet. My only guess is that I have scotland yard, and a palace there. I didn't think either counted as a national wonders though.
Also, no other city of mine is currently building it, (another city had some shields attributed to it, but is not building it anymore)

For some reason, it is dimly shaded so that I can't select it (in either city). In both cities I have shields attributed to it, which I can see in the dim Icon, but I can't reselect it...

So what am I missing?

You need to have at least one military unit at an advanced level. I'm usually well beyond that level by the time I can build the epic, so I may have the level wrong, but I think it is level 3. If that is wrong then it is level 5, although I think that is the level for Westpoint.

I thought that was heroic epic? Well it looks like I've got a level 4 axeman, and I can build heroic epic but not national epic...

Update:

Ok now the other city that I don't want to build it, keeps reverting back to it, after it finishes buildings in the city. Its strange, because that city doesn't let me manually select it either.

Its like its stuck in the queue or something.

You have to click on the national epic in the city you don't want to build it to remove it from the queue.

I know this isn't the correct forum for this but (I'll get a quicker answer here), is there a mod, something that would give the Japanese civ a new leader? I really dislike Tokugawa.

Legends of Revolution has Meiji.

I'm fairly inexperienced on Civ4, I typically play on Warlord and usually go for Space Race victories with one or two civs conquered, I've won on Noble but I'm trying to refine my skills by sticking with Warlord.

That being said... can someone please comment on the best economic system to use? Most of the time, I find myself using Mercantilism for the free specialist and keep it for quite a while. After that, what are the main benefits of going to Free Market or State Property? If my economy is already thriving, am I better served sticking with a free specialist rather than going to State Property? And does anyone ever use Environmentalism? I haven't found a use for it yet.

I have been seaching for days, weeks, but can't seem to find an answer. During WW2 Aircraft were responsible for sinking more capitol ships at sea than surface ships (I am not counting Subs). No ship was ever "sunk" while in a port, meaning every part of ship going beneath the waves. Pearl Harbor, 6 of the 8 battleships were back in action well before the war was over. Only 2 were so badly damaged they were not repaired. NONE were "SUNK". If you make the aircombatlimit 100% then you can destroy land units too, but I just want to sink ships sailing at sea. Can you create a promotion, call it "Airborne Torpedos" to cause up to 100% damage to ships at sea? Limit it to WW2 fighters and further, not level bombers? Even have a prereq of some sort, tech or promotion prereq.
