Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

I was looking to where resources are located

i.e

Horses - Plains, Grassland
Iron - Hills, Mountains
Coal - Jungle
Saltpeter Hills, Deserts, Mountains
Oil - Tundra
Aluminium ??
Uranium ??

Wines - Plains, Hills, Grassland
Furs - Forests
Silks - Jungle
Spices - Mountains
Incensce Hills, Desetrs

etc.

Look in the Editor, under the terrains tab. It tells you what kinds of resources can spawn on that terrain, you can adjust it as well

sorry for the confusion

And try to scure as many sources of Iron as you can, civs are much easier to defeat without Iron until they get Saltpeter.

Will one of my advisers tell me that I have when I have?

I just started playing again after a long time, and I remember some charts my advisers provided that charted the progress of civilizations known to me including my own. I thought it would be there, but do those charts exist?

Any answer will be much appreciated.

It was F8, F9, etc.

Yes you will get a notice that you have (or an AI has) destroyed the -------- civ name.

I now have another question: what happens when you capture or destroy another civilization's capitol? Does something different happen capturing as opposed to destroying?

Thanks for any responses.

I see. So what if they only had their capital left- would they still survive or would it be the end of them?

I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but I also have a problem; all my cities are connected by road unpillaged and unobstructed. This network of road is also connected to an ivory block. I understand that ivory is a luxury, however, none of my cities show any luxuries or the benefit of any. Are there reasons other than pillaged roads and crossing enemy territory?

If all of your cities are connected by roads and connected to the ivory block, they should have ivory. The benefit is simply that you have happier people. As a new player, you may or may not notice this, because you may be on a difficulty that has tons of happy people. My questions are: (1) you didn't trade off your ivory, did you? and (2) is the ivory on the same continent as your other cities?

Edited to add: And if your roads cross enemy territory (or that of another AI with whom you do not have a Right of Passage), yes, that will cut the trade route. Hence, no ivory.

I did not trade ivory with anyone and yes, it is on the same continent. I just built a road into the jungle to dyes and I don't have that either. I'm also quite sure I am not receiving the benefit because my people are only happy when I give them an entertainer, and I've had to often for civil unrest. In case this helps, I'm on cheiftan difficulty and I have the "complete" edition of civ3 from steam.

Ahhh...so that's it. All my luxuries are outside the cultural borders and I haven't built any colonies. Thanks a lot for the help.

and you'll need roads to connect it to your cities, can't you build a city next to it?

If it's in a faraway place send a worker or two to make a road while a Settler and one or two Spearmen build a city on top of the resource, then start working your way back. Or build a Harbour if possible.

Yet another issue. I understand that, in order to obtain a strategic resource, you need but a road connecting it to your cities. Is this false? I have 2 horse blocks connected by road to a city I captured a while ago (the roads are from the previous occupants), but I don't see that I have horses as resources in that city and I can't make horsemen. I have the wheel and horseback riding. Any suggestions?

If I should post a save, how do I do so?

Thanks for any help.
