Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Quick question, is there an easier way to play PTW than to go to "Civ-content", then choose a mod for PTW in if you have CIV3 Complete?

Civ III Complete overrides everything else. The original installation for Civ III + Play the World + Conquests allowed everything to be played separately.

To finish Great Wonders you need a Scientific Leader in C3C, scratchthepitch.

That's what I thought.

More incentive to mod in some more small wonders to give these military leaders a purpose in life (I edited out armies for the epic game since the AI has no ability to use them unless they are filled up and pre-placed).

Thanks.

So, again, that accursed, Celtic-fan AI cheats.

If you are referring to the MGL being able to rush great wonders, it is not so much a cheat as an oversight. Humans use the GUI and a check was put in to make sure you did not rush a GW with an MGL.

They forgot to do the same for the AI, which cannot use the GUI. It took a lot of years, before it was shown that in fact they could rush a GW.

The AI does not really have any cheats afaik. It has bonus per level after Regent. It knows the disposition of the tiles. These are not cheats as they are handicaps. The tile thing was done to save a lot of extra coding for pathing.

The bonus is just like a golf handicap. If you have a lower handicap than the other guy, the person get the strokes. You agree to the handicap, so you cannot say they cheated.

Glad to hear it. Every now and then I get annoyed about all the crying the AI is cheating.

Very true. It actually makes the game better, as you must realize how the AI has those bonuses/better starting units, and take that into account, thus moving quickly, beginning wars early, etc.

You would think though, that on Chieftain and Warlord, as you are receiving those bonuses, you yourself are cheating. Although of course you could liken it back to vmxa's golf analogy of the handicap.

Not the bonuses, I meant the AI teleporting its troops around and knowing where all resources are. The latter feature can eb exploited by modders, placing unusable resources makes the AI try to attack a certain spot.

What teleporting do you mean? The only way to "teleport" is to gift a town with units in it and those units go to the capitol. You can fly using airfields/airports or paratroops.

The disposition of the tiles was a cheat, but not for the AI, for the programmers. They told us about that from the start. It sort of makes it more interesting to me and gives me info I would not otherwise have.

The moment I see them run a settler to some god awful site, I know a resource is near. Most of the talk I see about cheating is in regards to combat. They would have to be the worse cheaters in that arena as they lose nearly all of their battles. lol

The developers must have noted our complaints. In Civ 5 they're telling us in advance what a spearman will do to a tank:
