The Great Pyramids are a Wonder you should try to get/build on all except the highest levels, preferably by "winning" a Scientific Great Leader. :)
Which is exactly what I did last night.

if i get an early leader, i'd rather save it for later, or rush it for the great library if i have literature

i never build the pyramids. not particularly interested in capturing them either

i've gone entire games without building a single granary, and won, whether it's space, domination etc

it's definitely doable, granary only works with what it's given

good terrain is good terrain regardless of whether there's a granary or not on it

all a granary does is amplify that

only wonders which i make a go for are: 1 of sun tzus and leonardos (both if i can get them) + theory of evolution & hoover dam

if i'm seafaring and on a coast and have a river/good start, then i'll think about colossus, newton's, copernicus etc. super science city etc.

the rest i'm only interested in if i'm going for a cultural victory, in one city

I would rather save the scientific leader for a later wonder than the great library, I would only consider If im behind on techs and need to catch up. Same as for building it, It costs alot of shields to tie a city down into which could other wise be building units or other improvements. As for granarys they are nice for higher difficulties as they help pump out settlers and workers faster, usually build them in cities next to rivers

Do I need to build roads to resources like Sugar, Tobacco and Game if they are in my city borders? I know I need to build roads to places like Ivory but im confused still, im sloowly getting the hang of the game though.

Welcome to the game and the forums. No, you don't have to build roads to Bonus Resources, like you do with Luxury or Strategic Resources. When the Bonus Resources are within you city borders, they automatically give their bonus. The Civilopedia will list the different types of resources for you.

You don't need a road to benefit from bonus resources but you do not get the commerce bonus without the roads.

argh im gonna try again, I ended up on a map being on a little island and I couldnt figure out how to leave the island so all my cities started to riot -_-

now I know not to play on an island anymore lol, im slowly figuring it out.. thanks for the help too :)

Hi all!
I'm not very new to Civ3, but I'm not good at game mechanics.
I play in Civ3 Complete Version.
So, I started for Sumerians which are agricultural and scientific. I'm on the 1st turn, so I have Despotism. My worker is on grassland. And it would cost 3 turns to build a road on a starting tile. Difficulty is Chieftain.
My question is - why 3? I expected 6.
My civilization is not commercial, I have Despotism with 100% build rate, and default number of turns to build a road (according to civilopedia) is 6.

Worker rate under despotism is 2. So it'll take 3 turns. Anarchy has worker rate as 1, so that's when it'll take 6 turns on grasslands. Use the editor to check it out under governments.

Thank you. Now it's clear. I didn't know that editor is so useful to help understanding these number details.

Yeah the editor in conquests allow virtually everything to be edited, so its a great place to look that stuff up.

It seems that this logic doesn't work with "Clear forest" action.
According to Editor, this action takes 4 turns to complete (6 for "build a road"), so by this logic it should be 2 turns in Despotism (I have 4 turns in real game).
Where am I wrong?

Because there is a movement cost of 2 for forests. So you double it. That's why hills have 6 turns to build a road.

I can't find the Civ 3 opening menu theme lyrics anywhere and do you know where I can find them? Thanks :)

Been a while since I've played, but I seem to recall that in C3C you can irrigate a marsh tile directly, rather than clear it and then irrigate it. New install, new machine, and I don't have my old saves so I can't check it.... Am I just dreaming?

Well, because it's already flooded… ;)
