Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

-Very- Noobish question, but how do I add downloaded units into the game? I tried using this one guys guide from the ModdingWiki, but it didn't work

It depends on the version of the game and the units. Basically units go in the ART\UNIT folder. They won't be of much use, unless you are using replacement units. IOW someones design for a chariot.

To add a completely new unit requires a few things. I seem to recall they had a tutorial in the creation forum. If not some of the experts there could give you better details.

They should only be reassigned, if the town grows or shrinks or it culture borders expand. No way that I am aware of to prevent it, just to catch and correct it.

Thanks vmxa. I'm in the late stages of a histographic game. Currently finishing the build of many hospitals. With all tiles already irrigated, I'm seeing some fast population growth.

Speaking of Histographic games, be aware that when you set the Governor on a City it may change an entertainer, that you have set to change an unhappy/content person, to a taxman/scientist!...........Thus reducing your score! ;)

Thanks for the advice EMan. I've recently learned to keep track of the unhappy citizens via CAII.

HELP! I'm playing Civ 3, I believe it is completely unpatched, and I stole a technology that i was researching, And now I'm stuck on the enemy's technology tree. And I can't do anything! Is there any way to return to normal? And i don't want to close the game, because I would lose several hours worth of progress.

Civ3 does autosave, you know. If you close it, go to load game, find the auto folder in there, and open the file that has the latest date, it'll open from the beginning of the turn. That is provided you haven't turned the autosave off. If your game has crashed, you probably can't do anything about it. Pressing the escape key might conceivably close the window. In what sense are you "stuck" in any case?

I press enter, Esc, anything, this message pops up. How often does autosave save?

Autosave saves every turn. I suspect you might be able to sort that out by clicking on one of the techs to select which one to steal? I don't know; I don't normally steal techs.

I already stole Space flight, and can't steal anything else because I either already know it or the Babylonians don't know it. I think I'll cross my fingers, turn it off, and do autosave.

Have you tried selecting the back to the industrial age. There needs to be a tech that is in blue for it to select. I seem to recall running into this once where they had no tech to steal. I think I had to kill the game and reload form the last save.

Back back through the ages to see if any techs are available. Maybe an optional one you skipped.

I did go back through, but didn't find anything. I quit the game, and reloaded from the last autosave.
Then I kept playing. Now I built the entire spaceship, but the spaceship window won't open.

I still have no clue how to put custom units into the game
The people over at the ModdingWiki confuse me D:

That is becaue either the game has already met a victory condition or Space was not a victory condition. CAII will tell what conditions are enabled.

i am in the middle of GOTM 106, the only game i might be able to finish currently.

now i am able to take wonders fitting both of my civ's traits, and i have got a leader! will rushing the FP trigger the GA for me after i have taken both wonders, or will i have to rush another wonder?
