Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Don't edit Conquests.biq and start on a new .biq with the default rules which you can edit to your heart's content.

I know that you should not edit the original-Conquests.bic, but in case he does, he should have at least a security copy. ;)

But now I have got two questions:

Could it be, that temples and cathedrales will be allways destroyed, than the city has been conquered by another nation?

In my current game I rebuild the temple in poor Lindum the third time after recapturing the city again and hopeful to hold it this time, at least it is now strongly defended.

Also I was sneak attacked by the Mayas, which got a mutual protection agreement with me. Is it not nessecary for them to first cancel the agreement and then declar war?

Thanks!

Yes, all improvements with culture are destroyed. Temples, Libs, Unis ect.

Apparantly not, no. Maybe Locked Alliances make DoWs impossible; they are not part of the standard game, though.

An MPP is only of matter when some 3rd party attacks you. It does not save you from war w/ the compacted party.

Especially when it's one of those silly little countries. The AI will make a pact with any other AI but it'll never make a pact with you if another bot decided to break an ROP and did a Blitzkrieg against you, because logically you're at fault for breaking the ROP, so then you're a black sheep.

The big nations are a-OK, as they're mighty enough to wage wars on their own and then when they want to turn on you they'll cancel the treaty and give you a heads-up.

Patch 1.22 ; :bump:,,,, Do we still have troubles with the installing of this? :hmm: "how long has it been"??/

I un-zipped it [1.22] in my Conquests folder, and I'm still 1.00.

I tried re-started laptop...no change...

I tried running the game exe. again,,, :shake: no luck there,,,I don't really want to un-install and re-install game.......

:old:

I was hoping someone could tell me why the AI never seems to attack each other. I am usually expanding very rapidly, but I'm amazed that I never see other countries at war with each other as well. Eventually I grow to a size where I want to sit back and just grow in a republic or democracy, but I get bored and quit since no one else is stirring up trouble with anyone else. Advice would be great!

MPPs are useless in the best case, and in the worst case they put you into unwanted trouble. Avoid them like plague.

I just got one of those MPP requests where they will allow me to protect their sorry butts, let them crawl all over my lands and pay them for the privilege. :crazyeye: I'm thinkin' maybe... NO!

My experience is a bit different. I tend to see them war each other. Probably depends on the AI aggression and which civs the AI plays (put Germany, the Huns and Zulu together on a continent and watch the fireworks).
They tend to be friendlier if you have an embassy, if you are trading partners (especially if you're giving them something per turn). I beleive building towns right up to their cultureal borders makes them mad, but I could be wrong. I also beleive they like to attack a dominent, threatening civ, so if you're the frontrunner, it may invite attack.

Tweak the agression levels settings as Mr. splunge says and you'll see some more trouble. Also check the barbariana ctivity levels.

Another factor that influences how the AI chooses targets, in addition to what is already mentioned, is how the AI sizes up your military strength. If you are devoting your resources to rapid expansion, that is probably at the expense of building up your military, and that is going to make you look weaker to the AI. Your other AI opponents are probably using some sort of formula to balance expansion and military strength, so they are often going to appear militarily stronger, especially early on, as compared to you.

It's that "sit back and just grow" approach that is inviting the AI opponents to pick on you.

There are ways to stir the pot to get the AI players in conflict with each other. When I play, my attitude is that my first war will be a world war. The first time an AI declares war on me, I make as many military alliances as possible to get all the other AIs involved. The more the AIs fight, the more negative their attitudes toward each other goes. If they fight enough, they can remain furious with each other for the rest of the game. And when they are furious with each other, they tend to go back to war with each other over and over.

Take a look at the AI Attitude Study. When you know what factors into attitude, you know how to manipulate the AIs into fighting with each other instead of you.

When I said rapid expansion, I didn't mean settlers. Also, I'm typically the Germans, so that takes out one of the aggressive peoples. I go around and smash for awhile till I've set up a large land stake with a large military behind it before I take the leisurely approach.

I shall take a look at that AI attitude study tomorrow as it's rather late now and last night, after having just re-installed civ 3, I stayed up till 5am. >_> it's a curse I say!

In a game I just finished my trade adviser told me, "Sleep is for the weak!". Of course it's now roughly 4:30 am here. :splat:

How can i make a nation come later in the game?

I usually start playing 4000 bc, and i want to include America, but i'dont want them before around 1600-1700 AD.

Is that possible?

:crazyeye:

Can't be done :( Sorry 'bout that chief.

Sure?
Cuz i'm pretty sure i downloaded a map mayby a year ago from here, and there America got in the game around 1700 AD, mayby i just dreamin:crazyeye:

In that case you need to go to the Creation forum and ask there. It might be a mod and those are the guys to ask.

C&C completed modpacks

No, it can't be done, full stop. Triggered events were in Civ2, inexplicably taken away in Civ3, then re-issued in Civ4 but never added in either of the Civ3 patches expansions.

subject: I would like a new map to explore
I seldom play due to real life, but lately have played a bit more though progress thru an epic game is quite slow. I started a random everything except level (emperor) and size (standard) epic game last fall. I was assigned Babylon on a 2 large continent world. Fairly deep into the game, I was checking some old games and noticed the map on an old game was exactly identical to the Babylon current map. I finished the Babylon game and started again a random everything this spring. This time I was assigned America, but after exposing most of the map, I noticed it was again the exact 2 large continents but the starting location was on the other continent (Babylon started in the same location as the civ in the old game/map). I'm overlooking something simple?? It was kinda fun to see the variations of how different civs evolved with different neighbors keeping the map constant, but if I start another random game, I'd like a new map to explore. The seeds I've entered have been either 10 digit phone numbers or just a random tapping on the number keys. Thanks for the read.
