Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

I wonder if those demographics Darski pointed out have any correlation with fast finishes/high scores. I don't recall looking at them in civ III, only in civ II.

ummm dont know how stupid my question is ....
but is surely a bizzare one ....

i started playing this game in 2003-04 ... that time i had win 98 and 256 mb ram ...
then also the game used to work fine ...

then i upgraded my CPU ... and currently have XP 2 gb ram ... my monitor still the same old one ...

The game is installed correctly .... when i start it ... my monitor goes blank and starts blinking ... but the cpu is still working

what is wrong ?
can ne1 help me out

one more thing ... civilization 4 works perfectly fine so does fifa 09 and other games , face problem only while playing civilization 3 game and i have to restart as monitor remains blank

I think it about 2000. It was years ago. On poly it did require 10,000, which I hit many years back, but rarely post there now.

I know if I break a gpt treaty it affects my reputation, now I have a question regarding "pointy-stick" tech research which requires giving a 20-turn peace treaty. If I resume attacking the next turn, do I take a rep hit for that as well?

No, reputation affects the willingness of the AI to sign 20-turn deals with you. If you've broken one of those deals, your reputation gets affected. So You're breaking a peacedeal, it'll become very difficult so sign any deal with the AI where you are giving something for 20 turns.

That makes sense, any deal broken is a rep hit. Thanks for the responses, guess I will have to be more prudent before giving away any per turn deals.

Thanks for the correction, Optional.

Is there a way to gift/return slaves to their home civilization? I’m currently playing a game with a diplomatic vc. They may be happy to have their people return home.

That probably won't do anything Pacioli. I'd advise gifting them gold instead. You can return the slaves to your capital and then gift them from there though.

It seems to me that the AI knows exactly what the map looks like. Places I wouldn't dream of building a city on (for example tundra with no forests, or desert) seem to have those resources I crucially need. And those resources are in my worst enemy's borders. Which means either war, or trying to scrounge out a living. Can someone confirm this?

They know the disposition of all tiles at all times. That means they know if a reousrce will be there as per the map gen. IOW when the map was generated, coal was placed on x tiles and that is known.

They do not know about resources that will be placed from being exhausted though, at least till they are placed.

It also means they know all of your units in towns or out. For the purposes of path finding, they have to behave as if they do not know tiles, beyond what they have explored. This is why I do not give out maps, till I have my land in my borders.

I do not want them sending settlers to open spots behind me. They know the spot is open, but cannot find the way, until they have exposed it by exploring or getting a map.
