I checked and it's actually 384 RAM. Maybe I should buy more?
The file is bahiawatha.sav....276k
The other 4 Hiawatha of... files I've asked thunderfall to delete them

Your computer and memory will not be the limiting factor. Any old PC can keep up with a 512K DSL link. The 25KBytes/second upstream data rate is tiny compared with the rate at which it shovels stuff around internally. You must have a software problem, or a DSL line or modem problem.

If it's software you probably need to reinstall your OS, or maybe just IE.

The 'A' in ADSL means 'asymmetric' which means the upstream rate may be way slower than the downstream speed. It's probably 'rate adaptive', in which case the upstream rate will be sacrificed if you have a faulty phone line in order to sustain a high downstream speed. I recommend you try one of the online broadband speed checkers. I don't know which ones are best near you. Dslreports is one example, but your ISP may have their own. If the upstream rate shows up as significantly slower than 100 Kbits per second then get hold of your phone company or your ISP to check out the line and modem.

I would not blame it on your system specs.
I guess it's more of an upload issue...
Either the server on the other end was too busy or your ISP is evil.

If you can play Civ3 OK without tearing your hair out then you don't have a system speed problem.

My PC plays fine although it runs hot at times. I wanted to see if I could upload because I wanted to try a succession game but it may not be possible....it's a SBC DSL line. Maybe I should just be patient?

Well, I don't know the structure of teh US telecom sector these daya, but a quick look at their web site says SBC are perfectly capable of delivering decenst DSL service. Why do you think you should suffer in silence?

PS The typical upload time for a Civ3 file is 5 to 10 seconds on my DSL connection, depending on the map size, state of the game and version (C3C files are bigger). I've done more than my fair share of uploads while testing submission software for GOTM.

where did you load bahiawatha.sav up to then?
(can't find it in uploads8?)

if you, say, send your save by mail attachment to your own mail account and it lifts off much faster, your end should be fine.:)

I see it in upload8. One is bahiawatha.sav, one is hiawatha.sav and I think 3 others are Hiawatha_of_..etc..sav. All are the same (I didn't think they were loading but they're there). I asked Thunderfall to delete the others.
They have question marks next to them.

I see them. (Grille, they were uploaded around 11:15, 15-Jan according to uploads8). Here is bahiawatha.SAV. Is there anything you would like to be checked out, or was this just a test to see if it would upload? :)

What I would like to do is see how to post that file? How do I create it from that .sav file? It takes forever when I go into upload center....is that normal?

I even tried from my girlfriends brand Mac powerbook G4 and when I tried to get in the upload center it was forever!

If you mean how do you put a link to it in your post, then there are two ways:

1. Click Go Advanced below your Quick Reply window. In the Attach Files section on that screen click Manage Attachments. In the window that opens select a file from your system and click Upload. It will appear in the Attach Files section. Post your message and the file will show up as an attachment at the bottom.

2. Upload it as you have done, using the "Upload Files" link at the bottom of each forum page. When yuo have uploaded it, click the option to Show the contents of the uploads8 folder. Right click the link to your file in that window and select "Copy shortcut". Go to the message you are typing and click the little World icon above the message editing area (Advanced mode again). You will see a window asking for the text you want as the actual visible text for your link. Type something like "The Save" and click OK. You then get a box where you have to enter the URL for the link. Right click in it and select "Paste" to paste in the shortcut that you Copied. Click OK, and your link is complete. Finish editing the rest of the post and submit it. You're done.

AlanH You are a life saver!!!

Is this it?

Question: What is the exact chance for a ship to sink when there is a chance at all? I think someone figured it out once through testing, but I can't find it. Note that I'd like the answer to apply to the latest version of Conquests.

It was 50% chance of sinking for non-seafaring, 25% for seafaring.

Hello! I am playing Civ 3 Vanilla with the Double your Pleasure mod. I have some trouble finding the best government type for wartime / peacetime / etc, since there are so many... What do you think?

You would be better off asking in the thread for DyP. Just some general advice: peacetime: war-weariness is ok, a commerce bonus (like in Republic and Democracy in regular civ) is nice. Wartime: war-weariness could hurt you.

Okay, thanks. Does it matter what the ship is, and what kind of square it's in (sea or ocean)?

WillJ, I did a test on that here.

I keep meaning to continue that test, but I don't think it varies depending on terrain, the ship, difficulty level, etc. 25% and 50% are the chances, period, as far as I know.

I hope this isn't an inappropriate question for this forum. At the very least it's quick. Does anyone know of a similiar forum for Age of Mythology? You guys have helped immensely with Civ3.
