How many embassies do you find yourself establishing when you play? One per civ? If you see the AI begin a wonder that you also want, do you place an embassy in that city to keep an eye on them and know when to cut bait? In my current game, I probably wasted 200 shields by losing wonder races. I have read on here to take it easy with the wonders, but in the stock conquests sometimes wonders are the only real way to win.

I guess that answers that question. I had never tried to build another, but was thinking that might have saved me a lot of gold in the long run if I could. Can a 'disband' one and build another?

       I dont know how to win at warlord how do you other people do it!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

AZSportsFan: No, but you can investigate the city again with your embassy.

dannergreg: Try reading the articles in the War Academy.

A generic tip: workers are very important. Try to have 2 per city. Road every tile asap. (And mine/irrigate).

by the way sport fan u can only build 1 in there cap.

I can see that I need more embassy/espionage training! Thanks for the answers folks.

Should I ever avoid trading tech or resources with the AI in order to "stay ahead" of them?
NO!

But.....don't trade with the AI because you CAN; trade with them because they have something you NEED! (viz. Money, Urgently-Needed-Techs) ;)

In scenarios where the default time scales are not the years, how are the dates presented (eg for wonders builts etc)?

For weekly timescales, how is it formatted (year with week number? Or does it give months as well? How many weeks to a month (4?) and how many weeks to a year (52?))

EMan, are you saying that it makes no difference to their progression if you do not trade with them? Is the prevailing thought here that another AI civ will trade with them anyways, so I am not slowing them down or preventing them from overtaking me in any appreciable way?

@AZSportsFan: You are getting into areas with your GOOD questions where a simple answer will not suffice.

Generally, if you trade a tech to an AI it WILL help their progression; however, if another AI has the tech you just traded, then it was probably a good idea to get something now before it's too late. The AI's usually seem to have the SAME techs researched. (viz. By Trading or Researching them.)

Trading has a lot to do with what LEVEL game you're playing on AND what kind of victory is your goal.

On the lower levels the AI researches slower than you, so you can be the Tech Leader; on higher levels the AI will research faster than you.....so any trade you can make, you should probably do it now because in a few turns they will have researched it themselves or gotten it from another AI! :)

BTW, Welcome to CFC. :band:

Thanks EMan. These answers seem to be what is borne out the more I play. I am playing the Conquests from C3C right now, and sometimes I keep forgetting that the trees have been modified and the scenarios are different, so when I look at the standard "cheat sheets" for what is needed for what advance I get a little lost. Thanks again.

If you want to see some Expert games and Expert analysis in a competitive environment, visit the Game Of The Month (GOTM/COTM) or the Hall Of Fame (HOF).....And, the Articles in the War Academy are pretty much CFC Gospel! :groucho:

Thanks. I have read through most of the articles in the Academy. I have yet to really follow a GOTM yet as I get left behind pretty quickly. I aim to play along with a GOTM as well as read though the spoilers/hints after I cut my teeth a little more. There really is a wealth of information here. I think that some folks are spending even more time than myself on this "game".

You'd better believe it!

This IS The CivFanatics' Center........where "Civ-obsession" is another word for "Normal"!

The 3 Rules of Civ to improve quickest: Play, Play, Play! ;)

I'm pretty new at this too. I read through most of the Academy articles too, but I keep re-reading some of them after playing a few more games, and it's amazing to find how much I missed the first time through...or second, third, fourth time. :D

I always spend an hour or two here before playing the game, and I try to pick out one new idea to focus on that night...next day I do the same thing. It's very gradually getting better for me. I owe a lot to many members here. Thanks, guys! :)

@Gmaharriet and AzSportsFan You should play a SG. It will amaze you how much you'll learn. In a SG you may only play once or at most twice a week. The dialog is so helpful.

In PTW, you can only have one active leader. Right?
Yes, you can't get another until you use the current one.
