Wait, I was under the impression that chopping down planted forrests did not give you shields, can someone clarify the issue?

You cannot chop a tile more than once, but you can chop down forests that you have planted.

So, once and for all, chopping down the original forrest gives 10 shields, planting forrest and chopping it down does not give shields, planting forrest where there used to be forrest and chopping it down does not give shields, planting forrest where there has never been and chopping it doen does not give shields. Is that correct?

planting forrest and chopping it down does not give shields
It does.
planting forrest where there used to be forrest and chopping it down does not give shields
True.
planting forrest where there has never been and chopping it doen does not give shields
It does give shields.

Tomoyo, has this changed for C3C?

Because in PTW, a native forest gives shields when chopped. A freshly planted forest will not give shields if chopped right away. However after time this planted forest will give shields when chopped.

:crazyeye:
Ok, I have PTW and would very much like to know how long does it take to get the shields from the forrest you've planted, could be usefull sometime...

I have never heard of this time thing... This could be interesting.

I've never timed it, sorry! I just sort-of feel it out. :hammer:

I actually use forests alot, for instance, I'd rather forest a plain than mine it. But after railroad, forests seem to become obsolete. Still, as a Civ3 freak, I may leave forests just for fun! :D

Honestly, I have a real life fascination with forestry. :goodjob:

In some cases I may forest a grassland to get the 2 production, rather than the 1 from mining.

I don't think FIRAXIS made any changes to PTW or C3C for de-forestation!

It's very SIMPLE really:

You get 10 shields from a de-forested square....ONE-TIME-ONLY...... PERIOD.

(Not more than 10, not less than 10........there is NO waiting period....city size doesn't matter......doesn't matter whether you plant the forest OR it comes with a forest on the square already....it even doesn't matter whether the de-forested square is within your borders or not....EVEN within the AI's borders still give you the shields!! [Of course you might start a war!])

Now if you want to get into a more complicated discussion, then figure out which town the shields go to when there are 2 or more towns 2 squares from the forest?

Something to whet your appetite:
If the towns are only 1 square away, the shields will go to the town according the following formula:

Call the square NE of the city center "Square 1".....and rotate clockwise to "Square 8". The town with the smallest number will get the 10 shields!!
(Exceptions: Cities building Wonders or Wealth are "Excluded".)

To the best of my knowledge the "2 Squares away" formula has not been ACCURATELY determined........any volunteers? (Admiral8Q?) ;)

I believe it has. Just use your "smallest number" thing with the following diagram:

I thought it had too!....BUT, this doesn't work in practice for the 2 square distance (Unless I'm imagining things!).......I will try to post a .jpg when next I sense a "situation" in an HOF game! ;)

@Dianthus....try this one:

Square "20" is taking priority over "13"!

Did not have a chance to read through the strategies, but wanted to see if anyone had input on how to handle large amount of conqured land. I have razed all cities, except a couple with 1-3 people. Rebuiliding cities in this area will result in high corruption and will take forever to build anything. Also will get more unhappy and corruption in other cites. Not rebuilding will resulting in another civilation talking over all the improvement and I will have to eventually have to deal with them. Any input or advice would be appreciated.

Yeah............."Take Care" of the opposing AI's.....FIRST!.....Look at the Small Picture above your Post! ;)

C3C Forbidden Palace

Can someone point me to an explanation of how the Forbidden Palace works in Conquests (1.22)?

Thanks in advance!

Corrupt cities usually work well when you irrigate the land around them and make specialists. This works especially well in Conquests.

I think you're looking at it backwards. 016 is square 14; 012 is square 19.

Edit: Nevermind, I see the problem. Don't look at it from the city. With the forest at the middle, the city at the lowest numbered square will get the shields.

This is only my second time playing in as many years. My objectives was to go throught and build up my civ (germany in vanilla civ). I am now in late industrial and have got the Panzer and hit my golden age. There are two continents with three civs on each. I was going to first clear out my continent (French, than Russians). I am almost done with French, but have some much land to fill in that is mostly developed. Not sure what to do. 1)If did not Raze, I would have cities with 10+ french in it far from my capital. 2) If rebuild have to spend a lot of time and effort with settlers and workers (for population) to get highly corrupt cities and increase corruption in current cities. 3) Do nothing, and have other civs settle the area.

What would you recommend? I am stronger the Russia, but will take time to win battle and will likely need short recover period from WW.

Well, now you've confused me......Are you agreeing with me that "Dianthus' Diagram" doesn't work? :crazyeye:
(I know my City Naming System isn't helping here! )

@Stump: Well it sounds like your top priority is to Win the game, any way you can?
Having said that, I wouldn't worry about cities far from your Capital or Forbidden Palace, if you have one.............the AI is TERRIBLE at mobilizing a FLEET of Settlers etc.

After you've polished off the Russians, take your time, build ships, load with military and INVADE the other Continent..........You can always ABANDON your outlying cities if the AI is knocking on your doorstep! :)

For more info, post a screen snapshot (.jpg) or .SAV file.

Hope that helps.......the best advice I can think of is: The More you Play, the More you Learn! :)
