Where can I find a comprehensive list of upgrade costs? I've memorized all the common ones, but I need to know some obscure ones now.

Also, how does the computer determine who "won" the war? For instance, sometimes on Emperor I take two cities and kill 2x the number of their units that they kill of mine, and still they won't give me anything for peace!

Thanks! :)

You could just figure it out in each individual case. The cost is the difference in shields between the old an d the new unit, times 3. If you have Leo's workshop it's halved.

I find the real key to a successful republic is to grow a lot of CITIES, not towns. Concentrate on growing your towns into cities (7+ pop) and you will gain the ability to support two more troops for free. I start out ring by ring from my capital. Irrigate for fast growth, then with a temple and a market and a few luxuries you will be able to keep 7 people happy. Move out ring by ring. Grow workers on border towns and move them to the core to fill in pop. Or use slaves to fill in pop. Becareful of unrest if warring that nationality. Before long, with 30 cities you will be supporting 90 units. This is very adequate for conquering a standard map and a very powerful strategy.

I agree... I just started playing a huge map on Emperor level and was quickly surrounded by AIs.... Luckily (thanks to map finder) I started with 3 cows on grassShortly after starting I found lots of floodplains and while I don't have as many cities as I normally like to now that my expansions phase was halted most of my cities are 7+ already and that is helping a lot with unit support.... I almost decided to go with monarcy but I'm glad I didin't.... I've got enough gold (w/0 research & GL) to upgrade wariors fairly fast and my 7+ cities are giving me enough research so that I should be able to get Leo's.... then I should be gaining land much faster  .... mu ha ha ha!

How do I create armies after I build the Military Academy? And I have enough cities to support an army.

Thanks in advance.

Choose "army" from the production list in the city with the military academy to build them.

You cannot build "armies" you can only build one at a time and that can only be done in the city that you built the Military Academy in.... (ie... don't build it close to borders w/AI and keep it well protected)

How does the bastardly AI grab your workers then automatically send them somewhere else (I assume their capital?) on their turn? Can the human player do this?

They are being disbanded when the AI doesn't think they can get them safely to thier territory.

How can you cancel a trade agreement after 20 turns? For instance, I still have a ROP with China, even though it's been more than 20 turns since we established it. I don't want to attack Mao while our agreement's still in effect, so how can I cancel it now?

At the bottom of the negotiations window is a link for 'active' deals. Click on the one you want to get rid of and it will end up back on the table for renegotiation. You can then just clear the table.

I've never seen this.... I've seen them move them... sometimes they don't even protect them.... is this only in the higher difficulties? I just started playing Emperor difficulty.... should I expect this kind of treatment to my workers when playing the AI now?

I've seen it pretty often, just like as watorrey describes. If it can't get it to safety, it'll disband it, and it disappears - pretty smart move on their part. I've seen it happen on Emperor and above (but I haven't played Monarch in a while). So yes, it is pretty common.

I am a regent player myself (attempting my first GOTM & Monarch at the moment). I have noticed the AI disbanding Workers after capture as well. Even seen em disband workers (ie slaves) that i captured from them. That must be harsch on your pop....

I still play on Warlord level. Today I had 2 cavalry disembark from a galleon and snag up 3 of my workers. I sunk their galleon with my bombers and mowed the cavalry down with TOW Infantry, but the workers had just disappeared. :p
