I understand... Looks like I'll have to try out Monarchy and Commies sometimes soon :) Been playing as Republic in all my games, and war part of them doesn't go well :/

Is it possible, in any way, to do republic slingshot with Philosophy popped from a hut. In my current game I know up to IW, CoL, Myst, Math and HBR. I have huts to pop and would like to get Philosophy-republic from one of them.

It is possible but there is no guarantee that you will get Philosophy from one of the huts. You cannot get the tech you are researching so you have to research something else and keep your fingers crossed. And you still need to be the first to get Philosophy in order to get the free tech.

I still dont get how. I have just reaserched CoL, so I choose something else than philpsophy as next reaserch, like literarture. Then I pop the hut, get philosophy, I am first so I get literature as free tech. How can I change literature to republic, after popping the hut I dont know how to get to the science advisor to change the next tech.

Oh... i see the problem. It will automatically give you the tech you are researching so there is no way to get the Republic out of it. Your only choice is to research philosophy yourself and take other techs from the huts.

Ok, that's what i figured after testing for a while. This game, I was unfortunately not first to Philosophy when I reaserched it. If I had popped the hut for it I had been first.

Does anyone know of a website or reference file where a player could easily see the AI leaders for each age (so that I would know what age the AI is in just by looking at them)?

I usually just look at their cities instead.. industrial ages civs will have factory pipes and so on

Other than researching Republic 100% for yourself, I think you can research ALL the other Ancient Age techs except Philosophy (and of course Republic)....then pop the huts.

Then, even though you are researching it yourself......you can get both Philosophy & Republic for free. ;)

Huts won't give you the tech you are working on. At least that is my understanding.

I don't quite get what the use of that is... why don't you just go into diplomacy and see what techs they/you have?

OR... hang on, just a thought... is this for a locked alliance or something, where you CAN'T go into diplomacy?

My question is- how can I play on a world map, one in which player starting locations are NOT randomized? I find it very frustrating that I can't actually start the game off in the right places.

PS- by "world" I mean a realistic Earth map.

I deliberately stopped my tech advancement before I got to Education. I want to know when at least two AI have hit the IA so I can take over the Great Library.

Or, alternatively, it's very easy to set the starting places correctly yourself on *ANY* world map you download. Simply get into the map editor, open the map, delete the set player start locations that have been set, put in your own ones, and then assign them to whatever civs you choose (by right clicking on the tile). :)

Ah, I see... fair enough. :)

Here ya go. This site has all the leader pics for all the eras. Leader Pics

CivAssist II tells you the current era for all rivals

Do you have to plant a lot of forest and jungle before discovering replaceable part to se the rubber or will it appear in the few tiles of it you have?
