Floppy? 1.44 meg floppy? Hmm...

Go to www.snapfiles.com, and download zipgenius. It's freeware. When you install it, you have the ability to break up .zip files into smaller files. I think this is your best way to chop it up.

Then go to the Patches & Updates page, and d/l the patch. It's about 24 megs, so you're gonna need a lot of floppies.

Can't you get a memory stick or something? That would be so much easier.....

And I'm pretty sure the removal of Radio will screw the game up. But as I've never tried it, I'm not certain. But pretty sure.

this question deals with conquests... is it possible to play a save that has the latest patch when you don't? where can i download the patch? I have to do this by floopy, so are there instructions for doing that?
It might be possible to load a 1.22 .sav into 1.20, but I wouldn't recommend it. You won't be able to load 1.20/1.22 .savs into older versions of Conquests as the .sav format changed. Patches can be found at http://www.civfanatics.com/civ3/patches/

When I set up my new machine I transferred my current game over and tried to play it prior to installing the 1.22 patch....wouldn't work.

How can I verify that I'm really playing on certain difficulty? Monarch to be exact...

It tells you when you open a save. You could also investigate an AI city and look at the build ratio (edit: if it's possible for you to do that).

Worker speed is dependant on government and whether you have replaceable parts or not. Industrious also has an effect, but it is equal for human and AI on all levels.

Thanks mate.
Do enemy workers work slower? MUCH slower?

when you capture enemy workers and they become slaves they work at half the speed as yours (or maybe just half the speed of rgular workers)

@turner & Dianthus: well, in that case it doesn't look like i'll be able to do the patch. although i do have a CD burner (I guess i should have said that), once i get the thing on CD how do i get it to where its supposed to go on my laptop? and if possible, do you guys know where i could find an unpatched save so i can test to make sure i can play the save the way i do it? (don't ask, my laptop tries to boot up internet explorer if i move using the folder thing on the side of the "my computer shortcut, I have to go into microsoft word, move it to my documents, and keep hitting the folder up button to play it from the load screen, and it didn't even work (presumably because i don't have the patch, but not sure)

Burn it to CD, then run it. You can either run it from the CD, or copy it to your hard drive and run it from there. The patch should detect where it needs to install, and do it itself. You can also specifiy the directory, in case it defaults to the, well, default directory.

Does "irrigate brown, mine green" apply to all ages/goverments or just Despot one?

It's just a general guideline.

Despot food is low - irrigate bonus food. Search for settler factories here on this forum and how to set them up. You won't get extra food for irrigation in despotism (except for bonus food resources (cattle/wheat/game)).

Switch govt!

Grow your cities to max pop (6 and 12) - settle for max shields (zero growth) when you have reached max pop.

Irrigate everything in totally corrupt cities and turn citizens into specialists (usually in the industrial and modern age).

"Irrigate brown, mine green" is a general rule of thumb that applies primarily to Despotism. Once you switch to another government, you can get the full food allowences and mining bonuses youwould expect, so then it is often (but not always) good to do the reverse.

(Like any rule of thumb, it is a general rule, and does not apply to all specific instances. ;))

Thanks, another thing I wonder is... Do I get culture points for wonders I've conquered ?

No. You gain the wonder's effects (I.e. Pyramids gives free Granaries), but not the culture.

Excuse me for my ignorance but what do (6,8,) means?
Also I wonder what numbers like 3.6.1 mean. In the lower right box. Standing right next to "Persia - Republic"

the (6,8,) was just counting out to the ten character limit.

3.6.1 is Science, Tax, and Luxary percentages that your civ is set at.
