HELP how do I get back the unit action buttons, minimap, all that good stuff that mysteriously dissappeared when I accidentally hit some key.

Never mind Turner told me it's the delete key and he's right.

Also, the backspace key will make the worker action buttons appear vertically on the right and come back again.

Sorry if this has been answered before but search seems to be off and I can't find an answer in the FAQ.

The only thing I have really used before in the espionage screen is investigate city.

However , this time round , since I was toying with the idea of going to war with Englaand I decided to plant a spy in London.

Unfortunately I can't find anything that tells me what I can do once I have a spy in a city. The civolopaedia entry for espionage tells me that Espionage gives me the ability to plant a spy (which I have now done) , but there is no civolopaedia entry for Spy .

Can anyone help me please ?

Thanks

Sir Clive, are you in PTW, C3C, or vanilla? The method to access a spy is different between them.

The first thing you should note is that your military advisor (F3) now tells you exactly how many of which type of unit that specific opponent has. This is useful information and be checked before the spy is used (because the spy might fail, be revealed, and you will lose this information).

Now, however you accessed the plant spy operation, you should be able to now use the spy -- to steal techs, investigate cities, incite propoganda, etc. If you give a version, I can tell you the specific way.

Thanks Arathorn - I have just realised I now have the options available to steal plans, steal world map etc from England which I don't have with the other civs

However what I really wanted was to work out the military strength of the English . I will now go straight to the F3 screen and check this out.

Presumably if my spy gets caught my reputation will be

:splat:

Can I remove the spy at any time so that once I have the military knowledge I won't have a problem with the English until if / when I decide to declare war ?

Do the English need to have a spy themselves to uncover my spy ?

The reason I ask all this is that I am well into the game. I think I might be able to get a diplo victory as I haven't been to war with anyone all game. but I am a fair bit behind in tech and armoury and may have to go to war with the English in order to grab land / production /resources if anyone else suddenly attacks me, or if I am not big enough to qualify fo the vote when the UN is built.

(BTW this is my first C3C game - have previously played both vanilla and PTW)

I used to play CIV:CTP and you could group units. Is there REALLY no way to group units in CIV III???

There are commands which allow you to move all units in a single tile together (either all, all units, or all of one type, in PTW; in vanilla civ it's only the whole tile). Since the controls actually changed between versions I can't recall which is which.

But permanent groups of units - nope, sorry. Other than the very special case of "armies" which cannot ungroup at all.

vanilla civ?
Uh anyway, what is the key command? I think I lost that little plastic keyboard guide.

vanilla civ?

The plain(vanilla) old version of Civilisation III. Not PTW, or Conquests.

"j" or "ctrl + j" for units of a specific type....

X is the stack mover in conquests.

Quick question : How does one build the Heroic Epic? I have almost never been offered this particular wonder to build, and I never see it getting built by other civs! I would always like more leaders to rush wonders. Can anyone help?

Can anyone help?

Yerp :)
You can only build the herpoic epic if you've previously had a victorious army, thus meaning you have to already have had an army, and it has to have one a battle.

Is it worth it? Do leaders come that much more often?

The chance of getting a leader is 1/16 without it, and 1/12 with it.
Some people think it is worth it, others not. It's a matter of opinion. If I have the opportunity to build it, I always will... (although I won't go out of my way to get a victorious army just so I can)

Note that is important to state the version you play (well, to some degree...).

In the 'plain' Civ3 (patched to 1.29) version (called 'vanilla', like Gainy bo said), shift-j is a worker command: autoclear jungle
j is the stack movement keyboard short cut in vanilla. So if you don't have PTW(C3C), the currently 'active' worker of a big (worker) stack might just make a "funny" performance if you hit shift-j while the rest of the stack still sits there...

How can i find out what version is my CIV3.I dont know if it is a U.S or a U.K version(need it for the patch). Is there any file in the istalled game(Infogrames/Civ/?)in which i can find the version?

Your version number is in the bottom left corner of the main menu page, although I'm not sure how to distinguish between US/UK.
