Can planes on recon missions detect subs? Destroyers are too weak so I don't use them (I use cruisers) so I need to know if they can.

they can't

Whenever I try to get a custom avatar from the internet, this pops up:

Warning: feof(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /usr/local/etc/httpd/forums.civfanatics.com/includes/functions_upload.php on line 119

Whenever I use a custom avatar from my computer (browsing) this pops up:

The uploaded file is not a valid GIF, JPG, or PNG file. Please ensure that it is and try again.

Look, im just 13 im not a computer specialist so I dont know how to fix it. So how to I get my custom avatar?

I don't know about the one from the internet, but when you upload an avatar from your computer, you have to have it as a gif, jpg, or png (I thought it was just gif and jpg) graphic file. You probably have the file as a bitmap (bmp) file. Open it, select save as, and at the bottom choice place, choose either gif or jpg. That should work.

I thought planes had radar...thats strange how they can't detect subs...aw, well...too bad

Use the cruisers to detect the subs, then use the bombers to DESTROY THEM...

In PBEMs, I guess there's no way to change my password once the game is running, right?
There is.
If you enter the administration password instead of the player password, you are asked to set a new player password. You will immediately enter your turn after that measure (which makes player pws kinda pointless in case the admin pw is known to all).

If you had a neutral PBEM host (so to speak a 'real' administrator who starts game and keeps the admin-pw as secret), you would have to instruct him to play the whole next turn with a new player password.

Now that is some *very* useful information, thanks!
I may consider doing this when I go on vacation next week. We've only played 2 turns and we're in the 'Load game, press Enter, save game' phase, so the admin may just as well do that for me. Better that than keep 7 players waiting.
Thank you again.

Usually, there is one civ that, by luck of placement and resources, grows pretty quickly into a superpower and bully. What can I do? I'm tired of fending off the attacks, and I'm just not strong enough to strike back effectively. I can defend myself, but sooner or later there will be several SOD marching in.

Regards.

Markus5: Allies. Get embassies with everyone else and get them on your side either with MPP or with MA after a war starts. Get plenty of artillery and build walls in you border cities. A couple of pikeman behind walls on a hill with trebuchet support can hold off 10-15 cavalry attackers. Quite often the AI will bypass a strongpoint to head for your core. If you have 6-10 catapults/trebuchets/cannons in the strong point you'll be able to damage the AI units before they get to their target. Once in the yellow, most AI units will retreat to heal. If you manage to red-line an attacker use your 2-move elite units to kill the wounded unit trying to get a MGL. Then use that MGL to create an Army. Send that army on a pillaging mission to the superpower core making sure to remove all resource connections. Soon instead of Cavalry & Infantry on the attack it will be just riflemen. Also by getting the other AI as allies, you'll keep them from trading to the superpower and force him to research all his own techs. With clever tradiing you'll be able to catch up on tech. Then use those artillery units to start acquiring his border cities. Be sure to complete all treaties and deals or else you won't be able to get new ones in the future if you need them.

I'm certainly not using artilery to its best effect. I'll need to consider that.

I'm pretty well caught up on tech. The problem is that the civ can simply out produce me.

I'll need to get more mmp and ma. Obvious now.

I always complete my deals, so I don't have rep problems.

I've started using the draft to fill defensive ranks when a city reaches 6 or 12 and a aquaduct or hospital is not coming soon. The food isn't wasted.

I guess I need to get more aggressive.

Regards.

I was wondering what exactly the three numbers beside your civ name represent? (I don't have the manual).

(8.1.0)

Thank ye.

ooo-ooo-ooo an easy one, I'll get this.

The three numbers represent the split between research-luxuries-taxes for you net income. You can change the split on the F1 screen in the upper right hand corner. You can move the 2 sliders (one for research & one for luxuries) from 0 to 10. The total of the three elements must always be 10, so if you use 5 for research and 2 for luxuries, then the remaining3 goes to taxes.

Denyd! You were too anxious, methinks!

The three numbers represent the split between research-luxuries-taxes

IIRC, the split is actually taxes-research-luxuries. A small point perhaps, but an important one I'd say....

Right items - wrong order

Kind of like have sex - have baby - get married

When I first looked at the forums, I had assumed the "Chieftan", "Warlord", "Emperor", etc., were titles bestowed upon you according to your performance in site tournament games. Then I noticed titles like "Archbishop of Towels" and "True Believer", and I wondered if there were any way I could change my title without competing extensively. I would, but I only play on Monarch, and in the few games I've played, I was crushed before the Birth of Christ. Don't have the time to hone my skills to the highest degree I could attain, looking for a shortcut.

30 posts I believe gives you the ability to change it is your user cp, under "Profile". It has nothing to do with site tourneys, otherwise whoever was organizing it would have a very hard time assigning them... or even come up with ones like "Amethyst-Eyed". :)
