Can someone give me a quick update on new Civ3 patches? Are any planned? Any dates?

How about Civ4? Any ideas when it will be released?

Another question ;)

What can I do putting a Bomber unit into "Sentinel" (don't know if it's the right term, in Italian it is "Sentinella" so I think that in English it would be Sentinel or Patrol) using the Y key ?
 
FYI: the term is "sentry"

it foritfies, and when another nations unit passes by it 'wakes up'
 
My civ is fairly strong, but I've developed railroad/steam and stuff but have NO coal at all on my land. From the world maps and stuff I traded I can see 4 coal piles deep in Russian territory. I'm trading and at peace with them, but there're soo backwards they don't see the coal !!! Is there any way to get this coal without invading the Ruskies ?? Or I do I just amass my forces and go to it?

Another question: What do you need to do to use a catapult successfully? I always seem to get "bombardment failed" messages.
 
My advice is: go for the war. You might need the coal later on and won't have resources to pay for it. The other option would be to give them the tech that reveals coal. But thats up to you. :S

Try to be on high terrrains. I'm sure one of the professionals will have more to add :).

I've tinkered with that strategy, but they're behind and I feel I'll lose my advantage. If 10 catapults or so could 'gurantee' victory at cities I'll probably charge in there, rocks a blazing !!

you should push towar replaceable parts for infantry or flight for bombers. use those in your completly, 100% neccesary war. also, you say "deep in rusian terriotry" could it possibly be closer to the sea for you to launch a seaborne invasion?

WAR it is !!! Although, Bombers would be best :) It's 'deep' as in centralised so must be a land/air attack :)

Mechoption: If you've got steam power, you should also be able to upgrade those catapults to cannons. You'll greatly increase your hit rate with cannons. Also if you've got a good rate of science going, I agree with ybbor to go ahead and get to Replaceable Parts. With Artillery & Infantry supporting your cavalry charges, Russia should collapse like the Eagles in the NFC Championship Game :D
 
Depending on how close you are to RP, I would also try for artillery first, the gap between cannons and artillery is huge. In my view seige engines aren't worth much until they get the 2 range and 2 damage, both of which occur in the transition from cannons to artillery. Also infantry and fast workers are very important for a war effort.
 
Uhm, this may be a stupid question but is it normal to get corruption in your capital? Vanilla Civ 1.29f. I'm the Persians and last turn ~1325 AD I noticed I was losing one shield and one commerce to corruption in Persopolis. City size is 9 producing ~20 shields and one or two surplus food. It's on fresh water so no 'duct.

Well, corruption would certainly be lower in Democracy. Been a while since I've done VC3, but I recall that there was about that much corruption in 1.29.

Now, if you're in communism, then you have 'communal corruption', which means that the corruption is spread across all cities.
 
Building a Courthouse in your capital removes the shield corruption for good. Of course, it costs 1gpt to maintain, so you don't actually gain any extra commerce... but 1 shield is 1 shield is 1 shield!

Lots of things I cant find in the manial

I tell a leader to build an army but he never does. How do units get into the army.

What do you click on to get a leader to speed construction

I can build airplanes but don't know the commands to fly them

I build battleships but cant figure out how to get them to bombard something on land

Would really appreciate help on how to do these things.
