@ Piko: "There are no such things as "guuzen" (coincidences) in this world. There is only "Hitsuzen" (fate)

It was probably because you had the Cultural link thing on, and there is a higher chance for someone to be next to you than half across the world, because you can be next to a lot of people.

EDIT: Welcome to CFC! [party]

Does someone have the link handy to a spreadsheet or graph that shows each land type and what their potential power is. I can't for the life of me find mine. Note: not the one from the cracker site as it does not show all of the land types like hills and mountains.

Can you load a saved game into the Civ III editor and change it a bit? I'd like to change the rules on corruption in the game I'm playing. In other words, can you make a saved game a scenario?

Or do you need a saved game editor?

You'd need a save game editor. I think Gramphos' Multi-Tool can help. But I'm not sure, as I've never edited a game like that.

You might want to pull the seed, and recreate it in the editor. If you post a save game, someone might be able to do that.

Sorry Tomoyo, fate my bum, and anyhow, we tried without culturally linked starting position for aaages, that was a final last gasp effort that continued to be unsuccessful. to give you an idea, this is the 2nd night in a row we started around 10 new games with different settings and still ended up right next to each other.

You could always ask someone to make you a map with your starting positions coded in. That should work. Or do your own....

I looked at this once And noted the starting positions werent numbered?? Did i miss something there?

You know, the couple times I have played a hotseat with my g/f, the first question is always "are you on the left or right side of the map?" If she's on the same side, it's probably the same landmass, and we restart. If she's not, then neither of us has much spoiler info (like you knowing the whole map ;) ) and we copntinue on. Not that those games ever get finished, but I suppose that's a different conversation....

I have only played a few games of Civ III as I am used to II but my Grandson set up a game for me in Conquest and he told me that the only way to win was to wipe everyone else out. Only Germany and I were left and they had 6 cities and I had 8 or 9. When I took the first German city the rest just turned to ashes. The city I took was not the capital and at the end of the turn I was advised I had a win (my first in Conquest). Why did the other 5 cities just turn to ashes? I don't know if it had anything to do with anything, but the level was Regent.

There's a setting, don't recall it now, but if you turn it on and loose just one city, the whole civ goes bye bye. Sounds like this was turned on.

Elimination is the name of that mode.

The other four civs wer eliminated early but I think I had to win more than one of their cities. I could be wrong, but it was really strange to destroy a whole civ by wining just one of their cities.

This may seem like a dumb newbie question (which it is ;) ), but is there any simpler way to play on a map bigger than the standard 'Huge' size without having to create a whole new map myself in the editor? I've tried using the search facility on the forums but the amount of posts is overwhelming and I can't find one that fits the bill.

Nope, the only way to create a larger one is in the editor. There's only the five sizes available in the game.

In the editor, I think the map can go up to 350x350. Huge is something like 180x180.

Thanks for the answer. :)

I was kind of hoping that there might be just some lines I could alter in the .ini file or that someone had produced a mod that might do the trick. I really want to play a map that gives me plenty of time to expand unmolested, has very little water and yet has plenty of opponents. Looks like I'll be investigating and downloading other people's massive maps from this site!

you could save the attributes for that, without making a map. Then load that scenario each time. Since there's no map, it will create one.

That sounds like a good solution.

Now all I have to do is delve into the unknown waters of the Editor !

Thanks very much for the help. :)
