Which resources are limited by the type of terrain they can be found on, and which terrain types.
See Civilopedia (Top left buttons on Map Screen.) :)

The other four civs wer eliminated early but I think I had to win more than one of their cities. I could be wrong, but it was really strange to destroy a whole civ by wining just one of their cities.

It might have been a regicide game - you got their king.

I have recently lost my hard drive on my home computer, which had CivIII on it. It will be awhile before I get a new one. The resources specific to terrain came up in a discussion about whether this is how it really is or not on Earth.
IE. going from misfit's list (thanks, btw) is oil really mostly found in tundra/desert (it's also found in the ocean)?
Is iron ore and gold only found in hilly and mountainous terrain?
Are gems (diamonds, etc) really found in mountains only?

Reg Pither: Try this game. You're playing as Portugal (C3C) on a extra-huge map with all 31 other tribes. It was played by a team a couple of months ago. I gave it a shot, but the 30+ wait between turns was finally too much for me to play.

I have a question regarding playing Play the World from the Conquests CD. I want to play in the SGOTM and the GOTM but I can't get Play the World or even vanilla Civ3 to work since I installed Conquests. For Play the World, I open it and it says to insert the Play the World disk. Isn't the Conquests disk for Play the World too (I didn't get Play the World, just vanilla Civ3 and Conquests)? For vanilla Civ3, when I open it it tells me to insert the Conquests disk and gives me the Conquests screen, even though I am trying to enter vanilla Civ3 (edit: sometimes it just does nothing.) What do I do?

Viper - I had that problem too.

For PTW, you have to launch civ3x from thw vanilla/civ3ptw folder. AQssuming you are doin that, a question - have you patched PTW? I was unable to get PTW to work until I did a complete uninstall and reinstall. I had however, tried to patch PTW first....

As far as vanilla, as long as you are launching the civ3.exe and have the vanilla disc in the appropriate drive, you should have no problem....

I did an uninstall and reinstall for PTW at one point, but it didn't change anything. Then I patched it to see if that would help but it didn't. I just uninstalled the patch to see if it would help and it didn't.

On vanilla civ, it doesn't do anything when I double click then Civilization3.exe icon. It is patched to 1.29f and worked before I had C3C.

In your Civ3/PTW folder, copy the Civilization3x.exe from the Conquests CD to that directory. You should then be able to use the C3C disc for PTW.

Why can't I click or research some techs? Specifically Urban Tactics, Neural Interface, Mech Engineering, Gaia Theory, Laser, Laser Miniturization, and etc?

What do these techs do?

thanks a lot!!!

umm, are you playing civ3? what etchs are those. if your playing a mod you may not have the proper folders, also, have you researched the prerequesite techs for those techs?

Technical question (ish)

I want to play GOTM35 but use those watercolour graphics. I have PTW so do I just go to the "scenarios" menu to load the graphics or do I need to write over the existing graphics files (back up first of course!)

I've played once with modded graphics but can't remember how I did it!

@Turner_727: Thank you! It works now!
@Turf: Do you have your techboxes.pcx file correct? And some of those techs aren't in Civ3, perhaps this is Civ2, or a mod?
@mabellino: If you haven't already gotten an answer, you back up the stuff that is in the watercolor graphics pack, then replace the other ones. Now that I think about it, though, it might work if you edit Civ3X to search a scenario folder with the graphics in it. You could try that, I guess, but I don't think it will work because the GOTMs/COTMs are .sav files so it wouldn't apply to your civ3X IIRC.

I have a Home LAN and was wanting to play a custom map in multiplayer. I have C3C and was wondering if this is possible and if so how is it done. Thanks for your help

I'm being bombed back into the stone age, and my flak units don't seem to be doing much about it.

Every turn, there are about a dozen bombers hitting three of my cities. I've got 5 flak units in each city, but every turn the units stationed in my cities are getting injured and my buildings are getting flattened. The flak units just seem to sit there like government employees, looking busy but not noticeably doing anything.

Help!

Should I go back to putting fighters in cities? At least they seemed to do something about those bombers (albeit not very well).

Quite recently I've read an article about how anti-air works. The advice is to put 6 AA (for c3c, for PTW just 4) plus 3 defenders in a stack in the city (and prey).
Another thing: don't forget to install a new patch: interception doesn't really work on old versions of civ.

EDIT:

One more thing, putting fighters in is probably pointless if you're playing c3c. In c3c bombers have lethal bombardment. If you move in fighters they can't intercept the same turn, so they'll get blown to bits. That's the AI strategy, building lots of fighters...
If you can build fighters in the bombarded town, that's okay since they can do intercept duty right away. If you're playing PTW or vanilla civ, this is of no importance since bombers don't have lethal bombardment in those versions.

If you have a cxxc spacing, a fighter MAY intercept from a safe city. I THINK the fighters protect the entire city area, and since 'city 2' is in that range, you should get the protection...

I thought the air superiority range was only half of their normal operational range....:hmm:
