Reviews for the Warden series
1) The Warden : Spirit of Revenge
The story seems erratic at first, but the loose subplots tie in very fast to create an impressing story. Still, the author is trying too much to show how some things are "so very important" , when in reality, if a weak character such as that poor farmer can take up the role of the Warden, it's not impressive anymore. Still, a must-read.
2)The Warden 2: Crown of Mists
Picking up right after the events of Spirit of Revenge, this one feels rather like an "expansion pack" for the story. It's definitely something new... but it's extremely boring. The villain is an out-of-nowhere generic thief with a plan that seems to imply he knew how the whole Warden business goes, which contrasted with the secrecy described in the first story. Overall, Crown of Mists is as unimpressive as an extra white page to a book.
3)The Warden 3: Equinox of the Broken Moon
While at first it seemed yet another fetch quest for our main hero, Equinox of the Broken Moon reconstructed the whole series into something better. Having the villain invincible by it's definition makes it a little demotivational, but it ties well with the fact that... well, I wouldn't want to spoil the ending, but it's interesting that the main character is defeated BEFORE the climax, and still it gets a happy ending without looking like the author entered the godmode cheatcode for the hero. Also, the seemingly-unrelated subplot for the entity whose plans are wrecked by mistake sets an interesting cliffhanger. I WANT THE NEXT ONE
4) The Warden 4 : Last Stand
What
The book begins with the recurring antagonist simply exterminating the hero effortlessly. Then it goes worse. And worse. And then the hero gives in to his own decadence... and becomes something worse. Much darker than the other books, Last Stand is a serious challenge for your brain. I seriously did not expect the good guy to become a bad guy and stay that way. Seriously, having the Grim Reaper as an antagonist was hard enough, but having the hero become something worse than the Grim Reaper for the sake of evilness.... It really discharges all the negative energies you've accumulated for that jerk Reaper... until it becomes disturbing.... Spoiler: our demoralized hero gets to lead a horde of monsters in an unholy crusade against life itself. Enjoy.
