Quick Questions and Answers

Hello everyone! This is my first post on the site. I have a few questions about Civ V and the community.

1. I'm an artist and digital painter. The primary reason im joining this site is to sate my excessive curiosity about modding Civ V. I'm pretty damn bad with computers and code and programming, so it all intimidates me. However, I went to school for digital painting so I can certainly whip up some awesome images. Is there a place I can go on the site to kinda, find someone to work with? I think it would be fun and engaging to apply myself to make art for some sick mods. And finding people who make sick mods should be easy in a place like this :)
Welcome to the community, TrevorVerges! :)

As for this question - there's definitely a place where you can check out what mods people are working on. Here's the Creation and Customization forum for Civilization V; I suggest you have a look around in there to see if there's a mod that takes your interest and is in need of art help, and drop the creator a line. Don't forget to look in the subforums as well, since they also have threads for mods under development (but have already released something as well). I'm sure there's plenty of people who will be happy to get some help for their mods' art.

How do wide players get by with the early game gold deficit? I just have 2 spearman, a scout and 2 workers yet most of my expenses are in unit maintenance. Was trying to play Russia (again) and I haven't even sent out my free settler yet because that would mean another extra escort. I sink my hammers into early wonders so I don't get new buildings.

Might sound noobish but most of my full games were tall so I didn't really go in the red this very early, probably because of Monarchy.

Monarchy
Early trade routes
Capture barb camps
Sell off extra resources, preferrably strategic resources that you don't need (i.e., horses and iron), either for gpt or a lump sum if you can get a DOF
Work tiles that provide food + gold (i.e., a calendar like cotton resource on grasslands) if you want to grow, or grow to size three and work a four food tile plus two tiles that provide hammers and commerce (i.e., gold on a hill).
Sell the AI an embassy for gpt as long as you're not afraid of them attacking you

Are you suggesting I go further into Tradition? I just took the Opener for the additional border growth with the Krepost. 2 more policies left to complete Liberty. I do got a good start, finding Pottery and Calendar from Ruins so I was scratching my head wondering where I messed up.

I do take down camps to reduce barb activity. I have a trade route but still at negative GPT. Maybe I'll just beeline Currency and try to get a Mint up fast, got 3 Silver in Moscow.

Selling extra luxuries and strategic ressources is the main source of income in the early game. Tradition is also easier on the money than the other trees (Monarchy and free monuments/aqueducts).

Later on city connection is another good source once cities are big enough.

And finally the luxuries tiles coupled with gold building like market and bank.

Hi, I just got done building a map and i placed down cities, units, improvements all that stuff in certain places. I saved the map, turned it into a map pack via ModBuddy, uploaded it to steam workshop. Then i loaded up civilization 5, enabled map in mods, selected the map, selected "load scenario". Then I load into the game and i'm stuck in the middle of nowhere with 5 attack units and 3 settlers. Help please.

I have no idea but would reffer you to post this in the 'Creation and Customization" forum instead of here, as I guess more people there will be able to help you. Best of luck

No, archaeology sites will not spawn on resources. Nor will they spawn where a player has planted a GP.
Though if someone discovers archeology before you, there is still the risk that you will plant a GP on a spot (it happened once, and it will replace the improvement).

I know there's a mod forum but:

- Is there a mod or some way to make the AI less slow? There can't possibly be so many potential decisions especially early on, that makes them so slow on a 2013 reasonably high end computer.

Ha you mean to reduce the turn timer ?

Desactivating movement and combat helps a lot there (quick movement quick combat in options).

After that no there are no solution. Civ5 runs its AI on a single thread so only getting faster cores for the CPU would speed this up. Or optimizing the code (mostly pathfinding) but I don't think people have done that. Modders usually try to make the AI smarter and that increase CPU calculations (making things even slower).

But really with quick movement my turns are like 5seconds at the start...

Quick movement makes it too hard for me to follow what is happening, but quick combat by itself is a great help. Also, I understand people say that switching to strategic view at the end of your turn helps things, but I have not tried that. Turn down your graphic quality options. Huge maps take much longer than Standard. Finally, the game really slows down past turn 300 or so. If your early turns are slower than you can stand, you may be in trouble. My computer is consumer grade 2013 vintage and does okay, but it's a Mac.

@volcanon:
By the way, there is a faster turns mod that's worth a try. When you hit end turn, it disables a bunch of options while the AI plays and then turns them on again when it's your turn. It doesn't make an old computer new again but it does help.

Go to the City View screen for each city. What they want to trigger a We Love the King Day will be at the top.

How can I figure out what resources my cities demand? I forget when I play days later.

Just open up the city view and scroll thru all cities. Towards the top middle will say if its currently demanding one or is already observing a We Love The _ Day

Thanks my friend! I'll be giving that a look next month when im less busy~

Hi there, I have a few questions -
1.Please explain me all victory conditions as I cannot understand anything in the civilopedia.
2. Is there a governor in civ 5 like in civ 3
3. Is there any science /luxury slider in civ 5 like civ 3
4. Are there any optional techs which can be skipped
5. What advanced options can be ticked like one city challenge in the game.
6. Are there any tools or utility for civ 5 like civ assist, map finder etc. If yes please give the link for them.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
