Quick Questions and Answers

Hello, I'm new to Civ so I hope I'm not asking something stupid...

At the beginning of the game the system always auto selects my units needing order so it's easy to command all of them. Later on, when I have many units, I often see the "next turn" button flashing before I can order all my units (sometimes it flashes before I even command a single unity). That leads to me having to scroll the map searching for all my units before I can finally press "next turn" and that's really annoying. I end up spending the majority of my turn searching for units instead of commanding them.

Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

It shouldn't let you end turns without commanding everyone.

Try pressing the End Turn and see if it switched to a Unit Needs Commands.

Personally this has never happened to me, sorry :/

Ok so for the dipolomacy modifiers for a civ in G&K, what do the different shades of a color mean? I assume they are to differentiate the "strength" or "weight" of the modifier, but which ones are more weighted and which ones are less?

The ones that appear duller weigh much less (on average) and tend to not last very long. I've had dull shaded modifiers that last and end in 3 turns :b

Immortal Game with Ethiopia
4th Policy almost complete
Getting 640 culture per turn (probably 700-720 soon when broadcast towers are done)
Spain also going for Cultural Victory, probably I'm either equal slightly behind her)
Elizabeth and Theodara has just finished Apollo Program
For some stupid reason I decided to finish Liberty last

Can I still win this game?

How do I calculate how much of an increase in happiness I will get from a building?

E.g.
I have -15 unhappiness

I rush buy a Colosseum/Stadium whatever I can afford - mostly but not always I get the number of happiness is says on the can. Often I get a zero increase in happiness.

Maybe I just do not understand 'Local happiness' - but I thought these buildings were global

Happiness is global.

Two things I can think of.

1. Maybe you were trading for a resource and the trade ended the same turn as you built a happiness building.

2. Some happiness buildings require you to have a certian population. "cannot provide more Happiness than there are Citizens in a city". For example if you rush buy a +4 stadium in a small city with only 2 people, you will not get all 4 happiness.

Sure. Don't know how many cities you have, but assuming not more than 4 cities, at your post-broadcast tower levels of cpt you are probably down to 7-8 turns per policy, with I'm guessing 5 policies to go (you've already opened Liberty, right?).

Just beeline to Representation (Golden Age and extra city policy reduction) to get the 20% GA culture boost and extra gpt, and then use all of the gold you can lay your hands on to ally cultural CSs (which also denies those culture points to Spain). If you are already in perpetual Golden Age and have maxed out what you can get from cultural CS allies, just hit next turn for the next 35-40 turns and see. During that time, you might bribe some other civs to declare war on Spain, to distract her from her culture fest.

I wouldn't worry much about the two civs who have built Apollo and don't be alarmed if you see them building boosters, which is the tech right next door (and on the way to the best nukes!) -- the AI tends to tech those pretty quickly, but doesn't seem to prioritize the other required science victory techs nearly as quickly as human players will. In my experience, they're equally likely to head for Globalization and a diplo victory, which can be faster than a science victory.

Exactly when can my subs be seen by the AI? I'll get attacked every now and again without knowing how I'm spotted.

Rome just took Carthage. Dido disappeared from the diplomacy screen.

If I take Carthage, can I liberate it and get Dido back?

edit: Nevermind. The answer is, yes, you can bring a dead civ back to life.

As you say, the answer is yes, but a better answer is "why would you want to?"

Another capital is a good manufacturing city, and as it is, the owner never is happy that you liberated them. (Unless that has changed. I know it was going to.)

Extra sight promotions on the enemies' side maybe.

If you are in enemy territory, or adjacent to it, they can see you. Other subs can see you, and if you are playing the Steampunk scenario that came with G&Ks, all airships can see subs they are (2 tiles?) near

I don't believe this is true. I thought it was only destroyers and other subs that can see you. (can anyone give word on whether missile cruisers have the ability to spot subs?)

@Snerk

I have found enemy subs by randomly ending my turn on one with a privateer before. Maybe the AI got lucky and this happened, or you didn't notice a destroyer pass by. I believe once the sub has been spotted they will attack it with non sub spotting units (like air units).

Though I really do not use a navy that much, so other's may have better ideas than I here.

It is true, I have seen enemy subs that are in my territory, and I hardly build a navy. If humans can see subs in their territory, and knowing the AI have tons of buffs, I think it is safe to assume the AI can see them as well :b

That could explain how it was found
