More of a general game question but one that only arises when playing with VP. When does the game make the auto save file? At the start of the turn before movement? At the end of the turn after movement?

The reason I ask, I am on turn 283 of a huge Settler game. I forgot to turn on quick movement and quick combat. There has been a lot of fighting going on recently in this game. At any rate, I am stuck with this seemingly infinite processing turns for city states.
I am thinking of forcing the game closed and loading the autosave, making a fresh save then see if i can continue any further.

Additionally, how much does VP raise the system requirements for the game?
 
Are there diplomatic consequences for indirectly declaring war on civs through defense pacts or vasslage assuming no cities change hand, no civilians captured, etc

Also, does plundering trade routes or pillaging tiles cause diplomatic penalties?

I've been friends with someone and then ended up in a war with them because of a defensive pact. After the war they were hostile with me the rest of the game, so for that yes there are consequences.

Dunno about plundering trade routes.
 
will "demand" or "request help" feature in diplomacy ever be fixed? would be kinda cool
 
What would prevent me from digging up an antiquity site? It is on a jungle tile within one of my vassals territory.

Only thing I can think of is that this location is blocked by players with whom I do not have open borders.
Both sides have to have Open Borders with each other.

That is a little vague as I have no idea whom you mean by "both sides"

Let me explain the situation in a bit more detail. I have open borders with my vassal because vassals are always open borders. Their island location happens to be in between two larger landmasses with narrow water passages between. These water passages have been claimed by other players. I've been sanctioned and have slowly lost open borders as the deals ran out. The archeologist made it to the dig site (for a CS quest) but cannot dig. Even putting the archaeologist on auto-dig just leaves him sitting there. I am guessing that this may be because there is no path back to any of my cities where the artifact could be deposited. Even if that were the case, shouldn't it still let you dig and not claim an artifact but force you to do tile thing instead?

There could be a worker there, or another archaeologist.
 
I am sure it is at the end of the turn. If you load an autosave of turn 99, it will show every AI playing turn 99, then it will go to turn 100.

If I recall right, there is an .ini- entry that chooses either start or end of turn, so both are possible.
 
Adopting Authority/Honor (nerfed to 1 per 10 citizens (was 8), now spawns any unit type (not just melee), and the unit created does not require supply) I got 6 trebuchet and nothing else for my 6 cities when they reach the size 10. I wonder if this is a very-very bad luck or a normal result for this policy.

1. Is it pointless to ask for DoFs? I feel the AIs ask themselves as soon as they want so asking before that is fruitless. Also when exactly does the DoF request trigger? Can I influence it in any way?
2. How exactly is the pillage yield calculated? A farm gives me 13 gold and the adjacent one gives me 40.
3. How do I mitigate the warmonger penalty? Seized two capitals in the Classical Era, just to shut down snowballing China and Pacal, and the penalty is still there in the Information Era, even with Casus Belli I pushed through.
 
Regarding warmonger penalty, I think it depends on how many cities you took, whether you razed it or made it a puppet. If you can liberate cities that will help a little, especially captured city states. Otherwise it is just down to letting time pass.
I do believe there are some civs that will hate that you captured a capital no matter how much time passes. It may also depend on if the civ whose cities you captured are still in the game or not. If they are still in the game, they could be telling other civs about your warmongering.

1. I never approached AI trying to make friends. I just do things that I think they might like and wait. Sometimes I have to decide if I accept friendship or not. You can influence it in several ways: shared religion, fighting a common foe, having similar policies, not sharing borders, having active trade routes, have benefitial deals (or you just gift them anything), and a few more things make a civ regard you in good eyes.
But don't mistake opinion with actual behavior. If you think very nicely of your neighbour but he has some goodies you want, and you suspect he is weak enough, and you play to win, then you won't care how high your opinion of your neighbour is, you just take what you can take. And the AI plays to win.

2. It's a base for each kind of improvement, multiplied by a random number in a range. For example, 10 for a farm, but it can be 5-40 (not real numbers, just to give you an idea).

3. If you are talking about what makes AI hate you and declare war, liberating cities might help, and other opinion modifiers, like the ones I commented on point 1, can counter whatever maluses to the opinion you may have. There's also a combat modifier that is based on how scary your army is (relative amount of units for your cities), giving a penalty to the aggressor with the big stick. And ultimately, the AI may attack you even if it has the best opinion on you, if it thinks you weak.
