I have heard some rumors that QT 7.6 will cause Warlords 208 to not run anymore.

Is this true? Some experiences here?

I can still launch Civ4 version 1.74 and Warlords version 2.13 on my MacPro after applying the QT 7.6 update yesterday. There are other threads reporting new problems where previously the software ran - check the threads next to this one!

It's not clear what is causing the problems, but it may be related to Tiger 10.4.11 + QT 7.6. There's a similar report in the Civ3 forum.

I guess we both have mixed up the Warlords Version. It is 2.13, isn't it?

Okay, so I will execute the QT Update later this day as I am running 10.5.6.
Let's see what will happen .....

I really shouldn't post at 03:00 am! I've corrected my post.

Please note that Zaimejs reports problems with Warlords in 10.5.6. My comment about Tiger was driven by the majority of the reports, but is not definitive.

Tiger 10.4.11 + QT 7.6 is what I am running and neither Civ IV nor Warlords is running. It upsets to my plans to conquer the world this weekend.

Any solutions anyone has heard of? Where can I find an older version of quicktime and how do I uninstall the new and unproved 7.6?

I also have Tiger 10.4.11 and Quick Time 7.6. Neither Civ IV nor Warlords is running.

Has anyone contacted Apple? Perhaps the latest Quick Time broke some other applications.

If so, Apple might be more responsive in producing an update of Quick Time that fixes the problem than Aspyr in producing a update of Civ IV and Warlords.

Just to chime in I am also running 10.4.11 of the OS and v7.6 of Quicktime and I am also unable to run either Vanilla or Warlords Civ4.

Reinstall OS from your original instalation disc. When you load the disc you should get an option to 'archive and install' which basically does everything for you. Then check for OS updates, otherwise you might find things like itunes won't work.

Alternatively, see 'Vanilla load problem' thread. Some people seem to find just deleting and reinstalling QT is enough to fix it.

just upgraded to quicktime 7.6 and started vanilla civ4. no loading problems. i've got an intel-imac with OS 10.5.6.

I killed quicktime and them rebooted in safe mode and reinstalled, and still nothing

Reinstalling 7.6 in Safe Mode hasn't worked, and I don't have the installation disc (it's at home). I've tried to reinstall 7.5.5, the most recent version before this one, but the installer doesn't allow it. Either I haven't deleted everything the new update installed, or it's impossible to do. Any input?

yeah i got the same message about "there is already a more recent version of this software installed" blah blah blah

We are aware of the issues arising with the latest QuickTime update in 10.4.11 and are working with Apple to get it resolved. Please bear with us as we work with Apple to find the source of and fix for this problem

From Email: From Aspyr
Hello and thank you for contacting Aspyr Media.

We are aware of the current issues in 10.4.11 that appear to be the result
of the new QuickTime 7.6 update. We are currently working with Apple to find
the cause and solution to this problem. Usually, when a QuickTime update
causes problems, Apple will provide an update to 7.6 or a rollback to 7.5.
Unfortunately, since QuickTime is an integral part of the Mac OS, it is
almost impossible to just uninstall the problematic version of QuickTime and
install the old one. Apple has been informed of the problem, and we are
working with them to get this problem resolved as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience.

Great. So now I've got two dead applications on my computer because of the QuickTime 7.6 update. I'd be more upset if I were an avid Civ IV player, but I simply haven't had time to play as of late.

Still, there'd better be a fix for this in the next couple weeks — OR I'LL JUMP SHIP TO MICROSOFT! Nah. Just kidding. Seriously, though, Apple and Aspyr, get it fixed. It'll be good PR, if nothing else.

Are there other applications besides Civ IV and Warlords that are affected by Quicktime 7.6? I gather from another thread that there was a problem with Quicktime 7.5 with regard to a digital editing program.

I know Alan hates topping new threads. Does the FAQ contain an entry pointing to this thread and any other thread that has addressed the Quicktime issue for a newcomer to this forum (perhaps one seeking help)? I'm sure Quicktime 7.6 qualifies as a frequently asked question at this point.

It would be nice if there was a compilation of the various solutions that have worked.
