Quot Capita

Here I was wondering how to combine VD with Next War, and what do you know, they share the same author and he (or she) has already done it! :)

EDIT: Just when I was about to ask how to mix the awesome betterAI into this, I find it's already in there! I dunno what to say, this forum consistently exceeds my expectations.

You know this looks fairly interesting, but on reading over Shqype's [MODCOMP] Route Restricter, I have to wonder is that an optional component of Quot Capita?

While it may be somewhat realistic, unless there's something like (land) Troop Transports (cars), or carrying capacity for the Gunship et al - it seems needlessly realistic. Moving units in Civ is probably one of the most tedious tasks of the game. Adding something that will require even more micromanagement to get your units to the front line seems unneccessary.

Exactly one "prestige"-like unit is using it: the Railway Gun. And in this case I think it's justified;)
( yep, I know - why did I bother to add a modcomp for the sake of a single unit ... but you have to understand, I had a weak spot for the Railway Gun, and now I'm happy;) )

Is there a suggested speed for this mod in order to really enjoy each era/that its truly balanced for?

You'll prolly get a different answer from everyone - but in General I find Epic to be close to the Sweet Spot for CIV. It lengthens the Era's without completely throwing Unit costs out of wack. Marathon - while longer technically, really changes the balance of unit costs compared to the other things it increases. And more turns clicking [NEXT TURN].

Caveat: I haven't tried QC yet, but long time fan of VD & Ethnic CityStyles.

thank you!

I came to realize that marathon promises longer, but does not always = 'balanced' in the vanilla game.

I think above and beyond wonderful new units/techs, what I really want is a game that takes all the eras (early, medieval, renessaince, napoleon, age of steam, industrial etc) and some how makes you feel you are playing through each of them instead of a sort of hodge podge.

To do this properly, I need enough time to play with my new toys before obsolesence. As it stands, I feel like early game lasts TOO long and then by the time I get musketmen the musketmen are out of date before they get a chance.

I would love to see a mod focused on having "One speed" that speed being intended to let me do just that.

Having come back from playing Empire Total War patch 1.3, I am ready to dig my claws back into a game that has a real diplomacy model.

The other thing I'd love is for someone to make a RPG element to Civ. The thing that is missing from Empire Total War, that the previous incarnation had was that feeling that when I married off my prince to a foreign princess, their child would inherit traits of both nations rulers and this almost rpg element. I've been waiting for someone to use 'skills' that work a bit like traits and assign them to a "Prince" coming of age, based on the previous ruler and various things that unit does during the game.

I should have also asked:

Are there any scenarios designed for this game? Any particular map scripts I should use?

Is there a rec difficulty?

I ask, because for instance with Fall From Heaven, they suggest normal speed and one diff higher than you normally play.

When I try it, I plan to drop back down from Emperor to Monarch (1 Step) at least for the first game. As there are a number of Tech changes and features that I had always wanted to look at but never got around to - and they change gameplay a fair amount.
If you haven't jumped above Noble yet though, I wouldn't go below that.

Thanks for the new version!

I started some test games and played around with the modules a bit. No xml errors without Next War anymore.

However i had some CTDs upon hitting next turn which are not reproducible from autosaves...
All modules were removed except VD, Units and Ethnic Citystyles.

Is there a difference between moving modules out of the folder and editing MLF_CIV4ModularLoadingControls.xml?

Anyways, i'll keep playing and reporting any bugs i come across...

Thanks, Ulysses81, I'm counting on you guys for reporting your findings!

I'd suggest editing MLF_CIV4ModularLoadingControls.xml, but I don't think there should be any difference.

If you have a reproducible CTD's savegame, please post it.

Hi,

I love the mod, but when I hit the 15 hundreds (in Epic) I get random CTDs when ending the turn.

I have't tried playing with other speeds, but the errors come regardsless of what mode I play.

Hi!

Is this with v4.1?
Can you please provide a savegame?

The CTDs can't be reproduced.
In my case they happen in the ancient age already (seems to depend on hardware resources). I also had one when exiting to main menu.

On my first try through this mod, I find where you normally need about 2X troops to attack a city, I had almost 2.5 and better quality troops and still no luck/love.

With the slavery option, they seem to be able to churn out troops faster than I can destroy them.

When I finished finally taking three cities from my neigbor, suddenly boudica shows up with a horde of about 30 troops. I am guessing she mass spawned them with slavery because we were still in BC.

So either I suck totally at this game, or slavery seems to be causing some unbalance issues more so than normal.

A few questions:

-Can you throw some slave revolts in there for slavery, more so the bigger an empire gets?

-Is the balance working as designed? Some games try to emulate a slower paced change of conquest, like medieval total war II, so perhaps this was your intention..

If your Graphics Card is at least Mediocre+, can you play other PC Games w/o issue? If not its either a Bad GPU or bad PowerSupply (if your card requires plug in from PSU).

Hmm, i doubt that it's a problem with my graphics card, it just happened with QC v4.1.
I wrote "dependent on hardware resources" because the CTDs (mine and essi2s) happen in different eras and thus with different workloads for the hardware.

@essi2: ...or did you mean 1500BC?
