The civ should be called 'The Turks' but the leader should be an Ottoman sultan. Dynastic names for civs don't feel right to me.

The Ottomans weren't a dynasty, they were a specific Turkish ethnic group, just like the Seljuks before them. Not to mention that the Ottoman Empire, not Turkey and not the Seljuk petty kingdoms, was a major political power in the Middle East and Eastern Europe for centuries. Both the civ and its leader should be Ottoman. If they want a surprise newcomer to the Middle East, there are lots of great options from the ancient era (Elam gets my vote) without dredging up the Seljuks or modern Turkey.

So Civ6 seems to be the best chance for Mandela, Ataturk and Simon Bolivar to appear.
Simon Bolivar yes please. As long as he doesn't get the Aztec palace.
The others not so much. Give me Zulu or an Ottoman sultan please.

Mandela will undoubtably make an appearance as a Civ leader at some point. Like, in Civ10, maybe.

Same can be said for Kohl and Gorbatchev. Both are slam dunks in the 2030 installment.

Also, YES @ Atatürk.

For Mandela, I can't believe they'd have South Africa as a civ given that for all but some thirty years in their whole History they were known for one of the most horrible and abusive oppression systems of their era. I know Mandela was part of the resistance to it, but what would be their ability? Their units? Improvements?

Seljuks were an immensely powerful empire by their own right, so if they're there, it's no "dredging". Altough the Ottomans descend from them so they could be considered the same civilisation by Civ's standarts.

Here's a link to a South Africa mod for Civ5. They gave them Fengu Gunner as a unit, and Safari Park as a Hotel replacement.

Partially true, but the Ottomans were a different Turkic ethnic group brought in as a second wave of mercenaries (you'd think the Arabs would have learned their lesson the first time :p ) and the Seljuks were never nearly as powerful as the Ottomans, even before they fragmented into petty kingdoms.

monuments.PNG

ANC: Ancient? (will this be the monument for the European Civs? it looks like a megalith)
AW: no idea what the "W" stands for (the current monument for all of the Civs)
ASIAN: Asian (monument for Korea, and I'm assuming Japan, China)
RMUG: Mughal (monument for India, maybe Arabia, Persia, and Scythia?)
ROME: Rome (monument for Rome, maybe even Greece?)
RSA: South America (monument for the Mapuche? maybe even Brazil and the Aztecs?, it resembles a Chemamull)

Nan Madol uses China's palace? Hong Kong uses Japan's?! :shifty: I'm so glad we're finally seeing more palace/city styles...and finally getting unique monuments. Can districts be next...? Also, the "W" probably stands for Western.

If RSA is actually South America, not South Africa (and looks like it is), the only real leak here is Scotland. So, either Zulu come as generic Sub-Saharan style or not come at all...

The funny thing is that both Nan Madol and Hong Kong used the RE palace style at Civ6's release. :crazyeye:

We already know this list isn't comprehensive, since it's missing the Cree, Dutch, and Korean palaces, among others.

Don't forget Mongolia!

Didn't France have it's own unique palace? look at the first look video about France and you see a stereotypical medieval castle as it's palace.

That may have been an early design for France's palace that was changed by release. I'm pretty sure they use RE now. Early screenshots of the City-States shows them using that castle.

Even that castle fits Toronto better than the one looking like the US Capitol. Why? Casa Loma:

Yes, I know that it was originally constructed as a private residence for an industrialist.

It is already South America. So they definitely won't get that one. That SS palace looks like it could go to Mali though, at least more than the Kongo right now or the Zulu.

Washington.;)
:joke: It's probably Western.

Yup RE is seemingly based on French architecture though its used as a Pan-European palace. I hope the Norwegians and Germans get a new palace as well but they arent high on the list of Civs that need better palaces.
