R.I.P. Westy

people only learn when you hit them.
well, he wasn't particulary popular but he certainly was a hot topic issue.

however, i take offense when people (Gelion in this case) say that they're going to "hit" me. WTH is that?

well as far as Im concerned, I dont know what happened in Vietnam, I wasnt there.I have read reports on it. I have seen movies and well I have even spoken to people who were there. BUT, I wasnt in the command and control center with Westmoreland when decisions were being made so I cannot call him a criminal. Now also Ive never seen 1 scrap of official paper saying go kill everyone you see, signed Gen Westmoreland. So calling him a criminal is like me calling u a criminal, idiotic. I cannot do it because I have no proof that you are. Now I have a slightly biased opinion because I HATE it when ppl say things that they cannot back up with 100 % proof. (goes to explain my total distrust for the media). Westmoreland was a great general. He was paid and schooled to do what generals do. Make war. Not please every little Tom, Dick and Sally who likes to sit in front of thier computers and gripe about how ppl did thier jobs. All the while forgetting that if it wasnt for people like the person whom they are griping about doing the job they are complaining about, they wouldnt be allowed to have those gripes in the first place.
Im sorry if I sound a bit agitated but we are all allowed our opinions, and Im so glad we express them. But outright slander is never called for.
Now for my last point, I liked Westmoreland. His job was to wage war on the NVA, yet he was handcruffed in doing it, According to my research. He was not allowed to attack North Vietnam directly, he was not allowed to attack thier supply lines, and he wasnt allowed to wage war as he was schooled. Now you can sit here and say " he killed people." no he didnt. least not in Vietnam. Being a general I HIGHLY doubt it that he actually was anywhere the combat.
His job was to command the troops doing the killing. So calling him a criminal because he was given a job to do? umm ok, according to that logic, shouldnt you call truman the criminal?

Im sorry if I jump around a bit, pain killers make me a little brain dead.

Westmoreland was a good man. Controversial but a good soldier.
