Rallying call for all interested: Colonisation of the Moon mod!

Check through page 40 to 101, you're bound to find a nice number of links/suggestions and advice. :p

On other news, I'm on the third (reworked) tier of techs sofar. I think I deserved dinner now... :yumyum:

Once work dies down I'm going to scan through a multitude of pages.

Go eat dinner, but you're aren't getting paid for a dinner break! ;)

Is there anything I can help with? I can't do graphics, but I would actually like to try Python with a helper... I know XML too.

We're very equipped to handle the python, unless Belizan wants to farm out some stuff. I'll let him answer that part. XML stuff always needs an extra hand, but not until we flesh out the tech tree. Once that's done though we'll need to divvy up the XML.

Off the top of my head what we really need is an audio person. That and Belizan wants a document person, maybe to write another Bible?

And of course we'll always need playtesters and idea generators.

So basically the long and the short is that we do need help, but we're in sort of brief standstill until we hammer out a better tech tree. Feel free to continually post ideas of anything Lunar related and I'll definitely keep you in mind when it comes time to parcel out XML work. :)

So, I gather this is gonna be the second generation moontank?
(first being a reskinned mech infantry)

If it's sharick's new one then yes! Although I still think we'll need to simply adjust the size when we go to an upgrade at times simply because of the lack of models so far.

Bah, we don't need many military models with that prepromo mod. ;)

What is available now?
- mech infantry
- SAM truck
- Sharicks wheeled tank
- the "hover"tank
- a lunar rover

Anything I forgot?

Guess I better start typing that revised tech tree (till tier 4 techs).

Bite your tongue, Geo!

As for Python, IVZanIV, there is an old bit of CS wisdom that says that when you add a programmer to a project, you actually lose productivity until the number of coders you have added brings the total to 5. Personally, I don't think that's so true, but like most such sayings it has grains of truth in it. At the moment, between Matt and myself, I think we've got Python well covered and well subdivided. If we lose Matt, though... :/. I think we could use a native graphics person, but that seems to be an ongoing disagreement between Woodelf and I 8). I still need my buttons, Woodelf! 8).

And any skins that come with them. My concern is the foot units, unless we decide we don't need that many. If that's the case then we need to find some pics to offer these excellent modelers as examples of what we need.

Matt PM'd me and he'll have more free time next week.

We can continue to disagree abut graphics. ;)

Sir Aragorn (sp) mentioned he wanted to do Lunar/Martian unit graphics so hopefully he'll help us out.

Elsewhere I had thought to model the purchase of building support structures from earth once we have the Old World immigration screen (as I call it), by allowing you to basically buy units whose only power was to be able to create a building in a city which could then be upgraded into the building in question. So, for instance, a Fabrication Plant Architect, might be able to build a Fabrication Plant Foundation, which could be upgraded into a Fabrication Plant.

I can't wait till you have the old world immigration systen done. As I mentioned before isoslation should be represented by a declareation(sp?) of independence from earth.

We could have a tech that allow a player to declare indepedance and once a player declares indendence he braeks all trade with earth(only for that player). Before declareation of independance the players colonies will become more and more unhappy as the game progresses to represent the population's desire for indendependence.(this rate will depend on the type of civilation. Indepentents will get unhappier quicker, etc.)

So I still want...

Circular Buttons (same size as the end turn button):
Earth, Grayed out Earth, and cursive X-d Earth buttons
Light/Dark Side of the moon buttons
And some pair of buttons to represent being Earthbound or Independent.

I also would like two new advisor buttons, one with a rocket, and one with a satellite on it.

I had thought to make Independence an ideology that spread and tie the unhappiness to that.

Warsong has recommended some more stuff, btw... He luvs my Brown out list too, of course 8). hehe. Let's see...

This round of exchanges he is still thinking we are doing incremental changes, so this is all vis a vis what we currently have.

Rename Permafrost Brick to Lunar Bassalt Brick--Nobody is using water in basic construction.

Recanme Duricrete to Lunar Concrete...

(He has references for these, and he's sent me a few other links in the past if anyone is interested)...

Rename Air Purrifying to Regolith Chemistry. Apparently you can extract Oxygen from the Lunar soil. It's a chemistry tech and he feels it would a be pre-req for any serious moon colonization expedition (so presumably folks would start with it). He says that Air Purrifying should be a requirement for Alloys because modern metals processing involves super-heated oxygen--And no one is going to move that much Oxygen to the Moon (at least no one is expecting too). Although we could put it on the tech tree as a first round tech, and just require kits for *EVERYTHING* before you get it. I'll have to bounce that by him. Anyway... *skips down a few paragraphs*

Ok, his other bullet was that we should have some sort of Lunar Soil Propellant tech/reference. It would lower the cost of returning goods to Earth, lower the cost of cislunar satellites, and allow the creation of long-range rocket units (and he has yet another link).

Anyway, more later. I have to get lunch and do some "work".

I PM'd Blade Roden (the guy offering free buttons) and sent him this post. If we want good buttons we'd better get someone other than me making them!

I like a lot of our unit buttons (Not the rocket infantry, but.. you know). I think it is also cool to have a consistant look. Therein, we may want our own graphics guy to, for example, take all the buttons we get, and put a frame filter over them to give them that white rounded square frame and a thin degradating white fog alpha layer over them. Those sorts of touching can add huge impact. Also, no one outside our team is going to make slides and splash graphics for us. Actually, that's something IVZanIV might be able to do for us. Make popupinfo windows. Mix of graphics and python--very time consuming and very modularized.

Ugh. Double crappy bad news. First I find out that although we do have DSL in my rural, hick area there is no more "space" available now. I guess someone needs to die, move, or drop DSL. Death right now is my best bet. Secondly I was just uploading the mod at Fielgone via dial-up and the damn page refreshed and I can't find the link they give at the end of the completed upload. Simply beautiful....
