random events

Everyone who hated random events in vanilla; just think about how useful they were to modders.

Road to War, Fall from Heaven, Dune Wars, many others all use Event mechanics.

They're the simplest way by far to trigger some decision and let a player choose between multiple options from a dialog box.

"RANDOM" events imply non-existence of a "trigger" (other than the RNG).

In Civ5, when you walk over a city-ruin some good thing happens; this is an "Event" in the sense that you mean it and - obviously - it is still in the game.

I'd pay well for a Random Event Creator/ Editor tool as DLC. One where I could insert probabillities, qualifiers, nullifiers, bonuses, penalties, event and pop-up text, etc.

Not only could I write events, but I could create scenarios by setting the probabillity to 100%, and tying things to a particular year or tech, without having to learn python, or go crosseyed trying to proofread indentations.

I agree. This would be great.

Unfortunately, they are gone because too many people complained about the negative ones... completely disregarding the fact that the option could be turned off. Me, I loved the random events... even the negative ones. Sure, it sucked getting the negative ones, but that just goes towards adapting and overcoming... a big part of being a leader.

It's like playing chess where every 5 turns you roll a die and if you roll a 6 you can take one of your opponents pawns of the board but if you roll a 1 you have to take one of your own of the board.

Ooh! That actually sounds like a good variation of Chess! That would make things interesting!

The events requiere several things, and there IS the option to trigger one, it's extensivly used in the modding community ("non random events") ;).

I was a fan of this feature, and hope to see it in a future XP or something of the like.

It adds another level of immersion that I enjoy; and as others have stated - it can be shut off, so the argument to leave it out because some don't like it is irrelevant.
