OK, so I generally try avoid posting in "please help me I'm stuck" forums, but in the last day civ 5 stopped working and I have no idea why...

NO settings were changed, there were no computer updates, no files were downloaded NOTHING.

The game crashes (in either Dx version) just after the steamworkshop logo appears. I have the intro video switched off (GnK) if it helps.

So I did the usual, verify game cache, reinstall game, reinstall direct x and c++. Reinstalled drivers (nvidia geforce 540M) to no success.

I run this in a windows 7 (x64) laptop which has had no problems with civ until now

Is there a crash file I can upload to help with this problem?

Thanks

Yes, this was the first time since the 2 patches and I do own Gods and Kings.

I couldn't find a GnK directory, so I just deleted the .wmv files in the main folder and the game started to work.

After all the verifying and re installations, I have ask... WHY does this work?

It seems that some computers just can't handle the intros in .wmv format...due to whatever reason :dunno:.

Since it doesn't work anymore now again...I guess you already checked the integrity of the game files? Else check please again the Civ5 folder, maybe the .wmv files were updated in again.

I think it was the GnK .wmv which I didn't delete first time.

I verified the cache, deleted ALL the .wmv (GnK included) and no more problems :)

Odd how the problem just randomly started up, when it has never happened before
